Job Summary
We are seeking a Director of Land Development to lead our land development division in Lynchburg Virginia, overseeing the strategic planning, execution, and delivery of large-scale land development projects. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in civil engineering, land development principles, and proven leadership in managing complex projects through the entire lifecycle, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, timelines, and budgets.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement strategic plans for land development projects, aligning with company objectives and market demands.
Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, planners, contractors, and stakeholders, to ensure seamless project execution.
Oversee all phases of land development, including site selection, feasibility studies, design, permitting, construction, and project closeout.
Manage project budgets, financial forecasting, and resource allocation to achieve fiscal objectives and optimize profitability.
Direct workload distribution and mentor project managers, engineers, and designers to foster team growth and efficiency.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, environmental standards, and safety protocols across all project phases.
Communicate project milestones, risks, and progress to senior leadership, clients, and stakeholders, maintaining transparency and managing expectations.
Drive business development by cultivating strong client relationships, identifying new opportunities, and expanding the company's portfolio in land development.
Collaborate with local governments, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders to secure approvals and maintain positive partnerships.
Qualifications
Highly motivated leader with a strategic mindset and proactive approach to problem-solving.
Ability to lead independently, inspire teams, and deliver exceptional client service while managing multiple high-profile projects.
Superior verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
Extensive experience in consulting engineering or land development practices is strongly preferred.
Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in civil engineering or land development, with at least 7 years in a senior project management or leadership role.
Possession of a valid Professional Engineer (PE) license in good standing from the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Proven track record in strategic project planning, business development, and client relationship management.
Strong understanding of zoning, permitting, and regulatory processes related to land development in Virginia.
