ABOUT THE ROLE: We seek a visionary and mission-driven, licensed Architect who understands the unique design needs of sacred spaces and the communities who use them. The ideal candidate will bring architectural expertise and a passion for faith-based design, contributing to projects that serve faith-based communities. This role leads communities through designing, master planning, and constructing or renovating sacred spaces and related facilities. The successful candidate will fulfill the following key duties: Collaborate with faith-based client leaders to design spaces that reflect the client's theological values, liturgical functions, and community needs. Integrate sacred art, action, symbolism, and environmental stewardship into architectural solutions. Promote innovative design concepts that are practical, aesthetically pleasing, safe, code-compliant, and meet the client's intended purpose and budget. Coordinate programming efforts, including information gathering, site analysis, and inventory of existing conditions, identifying opportunities and constraints. Use technical knowledge, communication, and coordination skills to meet project requirements. Execute the overarching design of a project per the Browning Day design process. Advise on design schedule and consultant team makeup for the project with the Browning Day team. Coordinate project schedules and budgeted hours and adjust throughout the project phases. Assist with documentation and timely distribution of all meeting notes to the project team. Maintain knowledge of building codes, accessibility standards, liturgical practices, and sustainable design practices. Conduct site visits, manage project timelines, and coordinate with contractors and consultants. Select and specify appropriate materials and associated details. Impact all phases of design, documentation, specifications, and construction administration. Implement the QA/QC comments and design review at each project phase. Participate in the construction administration phase, responding to RFIs, ASIs, and shop drawings, and in field site reviews and reports. Provide mentorship and professional development to staff. Support proposal teams on RFP/RFQ responses to strategically win work and expand Browning Day's network. Partner with design leaders to promote congruent design practices. Participate in industry-focused organizations, especially those advancing developments in faith-based design. Proficiently market Browning Day's services and capabilities. Incorporate and consider sustainable design solutions into all projects. Lead projects independently or partner with the project manager. Other duties as assigned. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced experience consulting on faith-based projects, including Familiarity with faith-based architecture; Knowledge of religious requirements and traditions impacting design needs; Passion for creating sacred spaces that are cohesive, symbolic, and beautiful; and Strong portfolio demonstrating technical skills, creativity, and sensitivity to sacred spaces. Proficient-to-advanced knowledge of the following: Design techniques, tools, and principles in producing technical plans, drawings, and models; and Zoning, codes, ADA/FHA/accessibility requirements, and applicable codes for site design considerations. Proficient-to-advanced experience in the following: MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); Scheduling software (Team Gantt); Sketchup, Revit, AutoCAD, and 3D rendering software (Lumion); Knowledge of Affinity Photo, Designer, and Publisher; and Online project management software. Advanced creative talent in the communication of complex design concepts. Advanced skill in prioritizing multiple tasks/projects in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines and provide high-quality service to clients. Exemplifies advanced communication and networking expertise, including leading high-stakes presentations, facilitating consensus in diverse group settings, adapting messaging across audiences, navigating complex group dynamics, and cultivating strategic professional networks. Preferred 7+ years of professional experience in architectural design, with at least 2 years in faith-based design. Bachelor's or master's degree in architecture from an accredited institution. Licensed Architect. An ideal candidate could grow into a leadership role in design, project management, or business development. Satisfactory completion of a background screening.
