I. JOB OVERVIEW
Job Description Summary:
The mission of the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) of The George Washington University is to serve the global community by providing high-quality undergraduate, graduate, and professional educational opportunities and stimulating and promoting innovative fundamental and applied research activities.
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is seeking a Department Operations Assistant. This position reports to the Department Chair, and will serve as the receptionist for the department and assist staff and faculty. The Department Operations Assistant will deliver excellent customer service.
Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provides administrative support to the Department Operations Lead, academic and administration support to the Chair, and Academic Support to the Faculty of the Department depending on the department priorities as identified by the Department Chair
Serves as the first point of contact for all faculty, students, and guests of the Department and carries out receptionist duties as needed.
Monitors and responds to inquiries received in the department's email inboxes.
Updates and maintains course scheduling as well as prepares, distributes, and coordinates dissertation announcements and required examinations.
Coordinates departmental events, seminars, and distinguished Lectures.
Submits FixIt maintenance requests.
Works closely with the department's student workers to create and organize department newsletters; and update the department's social media accounts.
Arranges travel and accommodations for researchers, visiting scholars, faculty, and students.
Handles event registrations for various engineering conferences.
Submits expense reports.
Works with international students on Visa and enrollment processes.
Works with various labs and the department on student hiring of teaching assistants and/or researchers, etc.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
BS Degree is desired
Event planning experience
Marketing/social media management experience is preferred
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills
Customer service experience
Ability to multitask
High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Experience in a higher education environment is desired
Ability to create expense reports is preferred
Solid understanding of enterprise systems (Oracle, Banner, EAS and Kronos) is desired
Hiring Range$19.29 - $30.16
