The Steel Erection Superintendent is a pivotal leadership role tasked with overseeing the safe, efficient, and high-quality installation of structural steel across multiple construction projects or large-scale initiatives. This position requires managing and coordinating several field foremen and their crews, ensuring that all steel erection activities are executed on schedule, within budget, and under safety and quality standards. The Steel Erection Superintendent drives project success through exceptional leadership, strategic planning, and seamless collaboration with project stakeholders, making them integral to the organization's operational excellence.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead and oversee multiple steel erection projects or large-scale initiatives, ensuring alignment with timelines, budgets, and quality objectives.
Coordinate and schedule steel erection activities across various sites, optimizing crew assignments and resources to meet project demands efficiently.
Direct and mentor field foremen, providing clear instructions, support, and training to ensure their crews operate safely and productively.
Enforce compliance with safety regulations, including OSHA standards and company policies, by promoting best practices and addressing risks promptly.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, and other key stakeholders to align on project goals, troubleshoot issues, and maintain workflow continuity.
Monitor progress across projects, track milestones, and adjust schedules or resources strategically to keep all initiatives on track.
Ensure quality control, verifying that steel erection work adheres to design specifications, industry standards, and client expectations.
Resolve conflicts and address challenges, minimizing disruptions and maintaining momentum across multiple crews and sites.
Manage material logistics, coordinating the delivery, handling, and storage of steel to support uninterrupted erection activities.
Utilize project management tools and technologies to enhance reporting, communication, and coordination among teams and stakeholders.
Work Experience
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in steel erection, including at least 5 years in a supervisory role managing large-scale projects or multiple concurrent projects.
Demonstrated success in leading multiple field foremen and crews across diverse project sites.
Comprehensive understanding of steel erection techniques, construction methods, materials, and relevant regulations.
Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with a proven ability to motivate teams and cultivate a safety-first culture.
Expertise in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and project plans.
Proficiency with project management software (e.g., Procore, B2W) and scheduling tools to manage complex workloads.
OSHA 30 certification or equivalent; additional certifications in rigging, crane operation, or steel erection are highly desirable.
Ability to travel to multiple project locations as required.
