WHAT YOU’LL DO
As an Estimator at DI, you’ll play a vital role in bringing one-of-a-kind ideas to life. Reporting to the Director of Estimating, you’ll help scope and price custom design-fabrication projects—ranging from a giant chromed basketball on an arena facade to a massive sculpted tree inside a children's hospital.
You’ll be on the front lines of innovation, working on unforgettable projects for:
- Pro Sports Teams
- College Athletics
- Entertainment Icons
- Healthcare Innovators
Whether it’s estimating a full-size Formula 1 car suspended from a ceiling or a fleet of aluminum paper airplanes floating through a new airport, your work will directly shape experiences that leave lasting impressions.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS may include but are not limited to:
- Interpret conceptual design decks, blueprints, architectural and engineering drawings, and project specs.
- Review detailed bid specification packages, Terms and Conditions, and other project documentation to ensure compliance to customer requirements
- Use foundational and industry knowledge of building codes, electrical standards, and regulations to ensure compliance, prevent issues, and avoid unexpected costs
- Collaborate with senior team members to deepen understanding of factors like transportation costs and risks, construction and project expenses, and local taxes—helping to safeguard both DI and the client from unexpected issues and expense
- Partner with Subcontract Partner team to identify qualified vendors and subcontractors, assessing their relevance, pricing, and availability for fulfilling project needs not managed internally
- Enter data into and generate reports from operating systems, estimating templates and databases as necessary
- Maintain detailed time and material cost estimates for fabricated elements using a combination of historic data, experience, and input from relevant team members
- Communicates (both verbally and in writing) the results of estimating data to internal and external team in a visible and transparent format
- Advise internal teams about feasibility and cost-effective design solutions
- Track project timelines and maintain current status visibility while remaining accountable to estimating deadlines
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Broad knowledge of fabrication and materials (e.g., aluminum, acrylic, wood).
- Ability to turn vague direction and details into accurate estimates with documented assumptions.
- Strong communicator across disciplines—designers, engineers, project managers, production staff, etc.
- Calm and approachable under pressure.
- Maintains a helpful and approachable attitude even in high pressure situations.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel; ability to learn custom software.
- Applies a customer-focused approach to innovation and problem solving.
- Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills in fast-paced, creative environments.
- Receptive to feedback and direction, with a growth-oriented mindset.
- Adaptable with a strong team-player mindset.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Finance, or related field required
- 2+ years of experience in a construction, manufacturing, signage, or engineering environment
- Previous experience with estimating is required

While performing the duties of this job, employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.
