Scope of role

The Purchasing Manager holds a strategic leadership role within the organizations supply chain and procurement function. This position is responsible for guiding the purchasing team, shaping procurement strategies, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals. The scope of leadership includes operational oversight, strategic planning, team development, and cross-functional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing the procurement of goods and services essential to the companys operations. This role involves developing purchasing strategies, managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and ensuring cost-effective and timely acquisition of materials. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a strategic mindset, and a deep understanding of supply chain and procurement processes.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies aligned with company goals.
  • Manage the procurement process from requisition to delivery, ensuring quality, cost, and delivery targets are met.
  • Evaluate and select suppliers based on quality, cost, reliability, and service.
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with vendors and suppliers.
  • Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues related to delivery, quality, or pricing.
  • Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., production, engineering, finance) to forecast demand and manage inventory levels.
  • Analyze market trends and identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead and mentor a team of buyers or procurement specialists.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in purchasing or procurement, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Proficiency in procurement software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of sourcing and procurement techniques and best practices.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting up to a maximum of 35 lbs.
  • Occasionally bending and lifting at the knees.
  • Sitting frequently at waist and shoulder levels.
  • Frequently reaching out in front of body.
  • Standing and walking intermittently.
  • Capable of wearing safety glasses with permanent side shields when on the shop floor.
  • Capable of wearing steel-toed safety shoes when on the shop floor.
  • Capable of wearing other PPE as required.
