Crane Operator**

**Job Description**

This position requires candidates to undergo training for the first few weeks to learn inventory locations and shadow their trainer. They will learn color codes for steel, placement in the warehouse, and crane operation based on their previous experience. The role involves walking for 8-10 hour shifts, both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to the elements. Candidates will perform various functions, including housekeeping, pulling beams, loading flatbed trailers and railcars, rigging, receiving inventory, moving materials via overhead crane, filling out shipping reports, and documenting outgoing loads.

**Responsibilities**

+ Train and learn inventory locations and color codes for steel.

+ Shadow trainer and perform general clean-up duties.

+ Operate indoor and outdoor cranes.

+ Load flatbed trailers and railcars, including rigging and getting onto flatbeds.

+ Receive inventory and move materials using overhead cranes.

+ Fill out shipping reports and document outgoing loads.

+ Adhere to safety rules and procedures around flatbed trucks and railcar systems.

+ May train for roles such as saw or brake operator, forklift operator, or steel bending machine operator.

**Essential Skills**

+ Experience in heavy industrial or construction environments.

+ Ability to read a tape measure, verified by test or reference.

+ Capacity to learn and retain information based on color-coded inventory systems.

+ Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, although manual lifting is minimal.

+ Experience operating heavy equipment safely.

+ Flexibility for training on day shift and proficiency in independent operation.

**Additional Skills & Qualifications**

+ Overhead crane experience in heavy industry or military.

+ Construction or related field experience.

+ Ability to jump onto and off higher surfaces safely.

**Work Environment**

The facility features predominantly gravel flooring, simulating construction conditions. Shift options include third and second shifts.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Petersburg, Virginia.

**Pay and Benefits**

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
