Job Description

This position will be responsible to carry out Civil Engineering level assignments related to Avista's power generation facilities, supporting systems, and the company's critical infrastructure. This position will perform engineering work which requires broad technical abilities as well as originality, innovative thinking, and collaborative problem solving on projects that may include civil infrastructure and structures, water, recreation, renewable energy, and natural resources. Avista Civil Engineers interface with plant operations and maintenance personnel to investigate and troubleshoot issues that may arise. Develop or contribute to civil designs and construction details while managing and supporting outside design consultants as necessary. Work duties will encompass a broad range of civil engineering aspects to support engineering design and analysis as well as providing field engineering support of construction activities for both capital improvement and maintenance projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site field engineering and quality control with company labor crews and contractors while construction is in progress. Perform data collection and data analysis including but not limited to horizontal and vertical surveying, well sampling, piezometer measurements, and other instrument measurements as needed. Document equipment standards and assist in the development of material and design standards to support project work.
  • Assignments may involve specification writing, statement of work development, structural design support, hydraulic flow studies, dam engineering and stability calculations, gathering data and creating surveillance and monitoring reports, and varied civil design support on an on-going basis. Create or informs operations procedures and maintenance practices, as necessary, at project completion.
  • This position will also contribute to Avista's Dam Safety Program, ensuring continued compliance with all regulatory dam safety requirements. The successful candidate will be an integral member of the Avista Dam Safety Team by supporting various aspects of the Program including FERC Part 12 and regulatory processes. These aspects may include: surveying; hydraulic studies and analyses; stability analyses; site specific seismic studies; hazard and risk analyses; as well as potentially overseeing and guiding capital and maintenance projects that directly support Dam Safety.
  • The successful candidate is expected to work with civil, structural and dam engineering peers in a collaborative learning manner to foster growth and development of individuals, programs, and the company. There is the potential for involvement with innovative projects to enhance our generation facilities using state of the art and state of the practice techniques and methodologies. Requires constant collaboration on multi-functional project teams to assist in the successful completion of projects which enhance the value of energy generation and delivery for our customers.
  • Moderate amounts of in-service travel and overnight stays for work duties are necessary as part of this position. Work locations are a combination of in office, in the field at hydro-electric facilities on both the Spokane and Clark Fork rivers, and work-from-home.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science from ABET accredited Engineering Program
  • Effective and flexible communication skills
  • Ability to travel overnight and work at remote locations when needed
  • Generation Facility experience is a plus

Entry Engineer:

  • 0-1 years engineering work experience required

Assistant Engineer:

  • Minimum of one year of engineering work experience required

Associate Engineer:

  • Minimum of two years of engineering work experience required

Engineer:

  • Minimum of four years engineering work experience required

Senior Engineer:

  • Minimum of six years engineering work experience required
  • Demonstrated skills illustrating use of productivity, presentation, and analytical tools specific to area of expertise
  • Demonstrated technical leadership within engineering
  • Demonstrated positive and effective working relationships with internal and external parties
  • Specialty technical proficiency, project leadership, and ability to be self-directed

Assistant Engineer: Hiring Range: $74,611 - $96,621, Full Range: $74,611 - $118,631

Associate Engineer: Hiring Range: $84,939 - $110,421, Full Range: $84,939 - $135,903

Engineer: Hiring Range: $96,517 - $126,439, Full Range: $96,517 - $156,359

Senior Engineer: Hiring Range: $109,815 - $144,406, Full Range: $109,815 - $178,999

Hybrid work options are available for this role. The successful candidate will be required to work at our Spokane, Washington headquarters at least 3 days per week including Mondays and Tuesdays with an additional day determined by the employee and manager.
