DEFINITION: This position is responsible for participating in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plant equipment.REPORTS TO: The Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Performs preventive maintenance to ensure the effective and continuous operations of plant equipment.
- Evaluates equipment malfunctions and makes decisions concerning needed repairs to minimize down time.
- Troubleshoots minor repairs and fabricates parts for equipment as needed.
- Organizes and maintains an inventory of parts and supplies.
- Maintains a clean work area, uses proper equipment, and follows standard procedures to ensure safe and efficient working conditions.
- Responds to after-hours emergencies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Must possess a Class B- CDL; or have the ability to secure within the probationary period of 6 months.
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of a valid Class B- CDL or have the ability to secure within 6 months of hire, with an active and consecutive 3-year driving history. Driving history will be checked.
- Knowledge of the installation, repair, and maintenance of the mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components of treatment plant and pump station equipment.
- Knowledge of electrical, carpentry, welding, and plumbing tools and techniques.
- Knowledge of the operation of machine shop equipment.
- Skill in analyzing problems and identifying solutions.
- Skill in establishing cooperative and productive working relationships.
- Skill in setting priorities for competing projects.
- Skill in performing mathematical calculations.

GUIDELINES: Guidelines include standard operating procedures, safety regulations, equipment repair manuals, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related equipment maintenance duties. Strict regulations and inclement weather contribute to the complexity of the work.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to participate in the installation, repair, and maintenance of plant equipment. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of plant operations.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with other co-workers, vendors, contractors, and members of the general public.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work area can involve a working environment indoors, as well as, outdoors which could cause exposure to outdoor elements; proper environmental attire will be required. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, pathogens and various chemicals. Safety is of the utmost importance. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination when preparing reports and using a computer keyboard, have vision sufficient to read computer screens, printed documents and operate office equipment, have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In an 8-hour time period must be able to transport self across the facility, ascend and descend stair steps, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height, wear and use appropriate safety equipment
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: This position has functional supervision over assigned personnel.
