Overview

This position is locatate at Electric Boat site in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Entry-Level Hourly Technicians

Electricians will be responsible for performing submarine and surface ship shipboard installation and manufacturing work. Candidates must be experienced or willing to work in naval submarine/shipboard maintenance and modernization activity and be flexible as well as adaptable, working in a team environment. Shipboard electrical manufacturing skills and associated mechanical skills are required to accomplish this work. These include, but are not limited to: electrical cable removal, routing, and installation: electrical connections and cable terminations (including fiber-optical); and electrical and electronics troubleshooting and testing.

Travel is expected, and candidates must be willing to travel (up to a year at a time) anywhere in the continental United States.

Candidates should be experienced in reading blueprints, and possess appropriate math skills for establishing or determining ship's lines to position components for installation.

Candidates must be willing to learn new skills and apply them as needed with the appropriate training and supervision. All candidates must be willing to support the companys goals of safety, quality, cost, schedule and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma / GED or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of electrical experience, or vocational/trade school experience

  • Must be able to work in horizontal, vertical, overhead and flat positions
  • Ability to work at heights, tightly confined spaces conditions as required
  • Must be willing to work overtime, work second shift, and travel as required to support work at various locations on-island and other offsite locations within the continental US.
  • Must be able to obtain SECRET level security clearance.

Preferred:

  • At least 1 year of experience working or living in Hawaii.
  • Vocational degree in a relatable field.
  • 1-4 years of experience in electrical installations, with experience in building connectors, terminating cables, splicing cables, routing cables, connecting cables.
  • 1-4 years of experience in electrical testing & troubleshooting using meggers, multimeters, etc.. ad apply electrical theory knowledge and reading & comprehension skillsets to diagnose problems.
  • Prior experience working at government shipyards, and are familiar with Task Group Instructions (TGIs), Work Authorization Forms (WAFs), Tag-Outs, NAVSEA Standard Items (NSIs), and controlled work packages.
  • Fiber-Optic qualifications and/or proficient experience working fiber optics (handling, routing, building, splicing, and testing).
  • Military experience in a relatable field.
Skills
  • Must possess the ability to perform the functions of the craft to comply with procedural standards and policies in a safe manner, and possess the technical aptitude to learn and/or enhance electrician skillsets.
  • Must work well in a team environment.
  • Must possess strong sense of accountability and determination towards seeking first time quality workmanship.
  • Must possess the ability to read & comprehend blue prints, drawings, technical manuals, install procedures, etc. Candidate will be expected to demonstrate reading & comprehension skills during interview process.
  • Must be proactive in identifying and communicating problems to supervision, and work with the team to come up with effective solutions.
