Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer responsible for the mechanical design aspects of military and commercial high-density power supplies, magnetics, dry type transformers, and related power systems hardware. This role involves creating innovative designs for exciting new programs with demanding packaging requirements and requires effective communication with customers and design/manufacturing teams.
Responsibilities
- Create power electronics packaging designs including layout, detail design, tolerance studies, material selection, and finishes while considering shock, vibration, thermal stress, heat transfer, electromagnetic interference, and magnetic shielding.
- Analyze thermal paths and power consumption requirements to optimize design layouts.
- Perform detailed mechanical analysis to simulate effects of shock, vibration, thermal stress, heat transfer, creepage clearance.
- Participate in engineering review sessions and present mechanical design and analysis results in customer meetings.
- Write engineering reports and assist in preparing world-class technical proposals.
- Support MRB and CCB activities as required.
- Contribute to production line producibility activities including lead time and cost-reduction opportunities.
- Support supplier and material selection activities.
- Prepare engineering change orders as needed.
Essential Skills
- 5+ years design experience.
- Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering required; MSME preferred.
- Proficiency in Creo, SolidWorks, MS Office, ANSYS, and IcePak.
- Experience with military high reliability programs and familiarity with Military Standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Innovation in packaging and mechanical designs in challenging environments such as structural noise, airborne noise, shock audible noise.
- Knowledge of cooling methods including liquid cooled, air-cooled, water-cooled, fuel cooled.
- Familiarity with fabrication methods such as machining, welding, sheet metal, potting, impregnation.
- Understanding of GD&T, CAD, and sheet metal.
Work Environment
The work environment includes both office and manufacturing site settings. The culture is fast-paced and deadline-driven, which can be stressful. The engineering team consists of 32 members across various skillsets, with current openings due to growth from new contracts. The dress code includes polo/button-down shirts with jeans/slacks, and the hours are Monday to Friday, normal day shift from 8 AM to 5 PM.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $95000.00 - $160000.00/yr.
