Mechanic Lead

The Lead Mechanic is responsible for overseeing and performing mechanical maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of equipment while providing leadership and direction to a team of mechanics. This position ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality work execution, and serves as the go-to resource for complex technical issues and workflow coordination.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and direct daily activities of maintenance mechanics to ensure timely completion of repairs and preventive maintenance tasks.

  • Assign work orders, monitor progress, and verify work quality and safety compliance.

  • Troubleshoot and repair a wide range of mechanical equipment, including pumps, compressors, motors, valves, gearboxes, and rotating machinery.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for technical support on difficult or complex mechanical issues.

  • Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other departments to coordinate maintenance priorities and equipment outages.

  • Train and mentor team members in safe work practices, proper maintenance procedures, and company policies.

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including logs, work orders, and material usage.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety regulations, including Lockout/Tagout, hot work, and confined space entry.

  • Participate in planning shutdowns, turnarounds, and major equipment overhauls.

  • Monitor spare parts inventory and assist with procurement needs.

  • Assist with hiring and performance evaluations of maintenance team members.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Technical certification or trade school in mechanical or industrial maintenance preferred.

  • Minimum 57 years of industrial mechanical maintenance experience, with at least 12 years in a leadership or lead role.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • OSHA 10 or 30 Certification

  • Rigging or forklift certification

  • Welding certification (MIG, TIG, Stick) a plus

Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical systems, troubleshooting, and repair techniques.

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and P&IDs.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Proficient with hand and power tools, measuring instruments, and shop equipment.

  • Experience using a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift 50+ lbs., work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying environmental conditions.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods.

  • Must be available to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergency callouts as needed.
