Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager

Position Summary: Seeking an experienced Project Engineer or Assistant Project Manager with hands-on field construction background to support project execution through crew coordination, procurement management, progress documentation, and safety oversight. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and practical field experience to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Operations & Crew Coordination
Plan and coordinate travel logistics for field work crews, including transportation, accommodations, and scheduling
Serve as primary liaison between office and field personnel, directly supporting President of Modular Operations
Monitor crew productivity and resource allocation across multiple project sites
Facilitate communication between trades and resolve field coordination issues
Work onsite with crews, daily, to address technical challenges
Procurement & Materials Management
Lead project kick-off and planning efforts to prepare for upcoming mobilizations
Source and procure construction materials, tools, and specialized rental equipment
Coordinate delivery schedules to align with project timelines and crew availability
Maintain vendor relationships and negotiate pricing for materials and equipment
Track inventory levels and ensure adequate materials are available for continuous workflow
Process purchase orders and assist Accounting Department to maintain procurement documentation
Documentation & Reporting
Prepare comprehensive daily progress reports including work completed, crew hours, and weather conditions, and/or any delays or incident reporting
Maintain accurate project documentation including photos, RFIs, and change order requests by documenting expenses incurred to support change order submissions
Track project milestones and update project schedules, and communicate changes to all team members
Generate weekly and monthly progress summaries for management review and accounting/invoicing.
Document and report any delays, issues, or scope changes
Safety Management
Enforce company safety policies and procedures on all project sites
Conduct regular safety meetings and toolbox talks with field crews
Maintain and update safety documentation including incident reports and training records
Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and local safety requirements
Coordinate safety inspections and audits conducted by our Safety Consultant
Monitor and enforce proper use of personal protective equipment
Required Qualifications:
Construction Management training or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum 3-5 years of field construction experience
Strong technical knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment
Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites with a safe driving record and ability to rent a car.
OSHA 30-Hour certification preferred
Desired Skills:
Experience with construction scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project)
Knowledge of construction contracts and specifications
Bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish) preferred
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in various weather conditions and construction environments, and to contribute to field tasks as needed:
oSorting/organizing materials and/or tools onsite
oStripping temporary weather protection sheeting and loading generated trash into dumpster and overseeing worksite cleanliness
Frequent travel to project sites, including overnight stays
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and walk on uneven terrain
Capable of climbing ladders and working at heights when required
