Job Description

Primary Function:
Work with Account Managers and Business Unit Managers to accurately estimate projects and prepare proposals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes customer submitted RFQs including drawings, specifications, and other documents.
  • Develops fabrication plans, in conjunction with manufacturing engineers, to establish the basis of estimate for each project.
  • Calculates labor, material, and other costs required to execute a given scope of work. This includes identifying qualified vendors and subcontractors.
  • Prepares work breakdown structure and supports the creation of MS Project schedules as required.
  • Assists with preparing quotations and proposals as necessary to meet customer requirements.
  • Works with Account Manager and other departments to ensure availability of necessary resources including manpower, equipment, and materials.
  • Provides support, as required, for the preparation of technical proposals.
  • Presents cost estimates for internal review.
  • Analyzes completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs and determine reasons for any discrepancies.
  • Identifies cost trends to assist in cost reduction and process improvement efforts.

Minimum Qualifications/Experience:
Associates degree (A. A.) from two-year College or university; or five or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of one year experience as a Materials Estimator or two years experience as a fabricator is required.

  • Must be able to read and understand fabrication drawings.
  • Must understand manufacturing processes to accurately estimate costs and lead times.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a general knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word. Training will be provided on the specific tools used in the performance of the position.
  • Must be willing to occasionally work extended hours to meet proposal deadlines.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit in a stationary position for extended periods of time while working at a computer. The employee is frequently required to walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet typical of what is generally found in an office setting. The employee will occasionally find it necessary to enter a manufacturing environment. The manufacturing environment is typical of that type of setting employees may be exposed to inclement weather, loud noises, tripping hazards; and there may be exposure to sparks, welding arc, open flame, and moving equipment.
