Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a Project Manager Signals & Communications to join our growing Rail & Transit team in Ontario. This is a key leadership role responsible for the successful delivery of signals and communications projects across a wide portfolio of transit programs in the region. The ideal candidate brings a strong technical foundation in railway systems along with proven project management capabilities in complex transportation environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the delivery of signals and communications projects from inception through completion, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives are met.
  • Support business development efforts, including proposal writing, pricing strategies, and client engagement, particularly with major public transit agencies in Ontario.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and work plans for signals and communications systems including Conventional signalling, ATC, CBTC, interlockings, fibre optics, public address, CCTV, and related rail communications infrastructure.
  • Identify and coordinate required resources to deliver transit systems projects efficiently and effectively.
  • Oversee project delivery teams, including technical specialists, coordinators, and subconsultants, while fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Interface with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary internal teams to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Monitor project performance, proactively manage risks, and apply effective change control and quality assurance practices.
  • Facilitate and lead regular progress meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure timely communication across all project phases.
  • Comply with AECOMs Quality Management System and obtain MAP (Managing AECOM Projects) certification if not already held.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members in project delivery and systems engineering.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • This role is based on-site
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or a relevant technical field.(Preferred but not required)
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in the delivery of signals and communications systems for rail and transit.
  • PEng eligibility in 12 months and/ or PMP
  • Valid drivers license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of progressive experience managing public transit signals and communications projects.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
  • PMP certification is an asset.
  • Strong technical knowledge in signal systems (e.g., interlockings, CBTC, ATP, ATO, level crossings) and communications systems (e.g., fibre, CCTV, PA, SCADA, radio, network infrastructure).
  • Experience working with major public transit agencies in Ontario (e.g., Metrolinx, TTC) or other Canadian jurisdictions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects concurrently.
  • Familiarity with multidisciplinary coordination across civil, structural, and electrical engineering.
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering principles, RAMS, and Safety Assurance.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
