This position utilizes bridge condition data and works with District and Division personnel to identify candidate, bridge projects for replacement, major rehabilitation, or preventative maintenance. Then works with districts, consultants, and in-house design staff to plan and develop bridge projects to improve bridge conditions. Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/ traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self- supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.Essential Duties:Transportation Engineer III- B26 $76,530 - $112,000Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing for complex transportation projects.Assists in developing and/or monitoring budgets.Interprets the Utility Accommodation PolicyMonitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements.Performs and/or coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications Estimates (PSE) submission, special specifications or special provisions.Provides assistance and technical support to districts, divisions and the FHWA in matters concerning bridge maintenance.Recommends bridge replacement, bridge rehabilitation and repair of damaged bridges.Reviews change orders, supplemental agreements, memorandum agreements and extra work orders; reviews monthly and final estimates prior to submittal.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Transportation Engineer IV- B27 $84,182 - $120,000Monitors contract performance, evaluates contract deliverables, reviews billing documentation, monitors the consultant's compliance with the terms of the contract, and/or prepares and delivers a written evaluation of the consultant's performance.Recommends prioritization of bridge replacement, bridge rehabilitation and repair of damaged bridges.Acts in an advisory capacity on administrative, technical, regulatory and engineering aspects of transportation.Coordinates and/or monitors assigned projects/programs/plans. Interprets the Utility Accommodation Policy.Makes presentations and represents TxDOTNegotiates agreements with bordering states, Mexico and the International Boundary Water Commission.Reviews change orders, supplemental agreements, memorandum agreements and extra work orders; reviews monthly and final estimates prior to submittal.Trains engineering staff.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
