Facilities Shift Supervisor

  • Minimum Salary: $70,000. Salary commensurate with experience.
  • Responsibilities include supervision of maintenance/custodial staff, purchasing, training, & payroll.
  • This is primarily a 2nd shift position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

The Facilities Shift Supervisor shall:

  1. Maintain daily communication with custodial maintenance staff.

  2. Assist in assignment and maintenance of work order system.

  3. Assist in supervision of purchasing and distribution of necessary custodial/maintenance supplies. Manage district-wide custodial supply inventory.

  4. Introduce and instruct personnel in use of new equipment and housekeeping methods promoting the most efficient and economical means of building maintenance.

  5. Provide training for employees and substitutes and oversee custodial/maintenance in-service events.

  6. Review, verify, and recommend payment of invoices.

  7. Supervise work activities of custodial personnel to ensure clean, orderly, and attractive facilities.

  8. Coordinate custodial/maintenance assignments for evening and weekend activities and coordinate automated door system and HVAC for events. Supervise and staff the parking details for all required district events.

  9. Assist in maintaining the Safety Data sheets and hazardous substance inventory for all buildings. Maintain directory at front office of all district buildings.

  10. Assist in providing safety training and participates in safety committee meetings.

  11. Maintain security numbers for authorized District personnel.

  12. Reconcile weekly payroll and manage custodial hours usage.

  13. Oversee the preventative maintenance schedule of all custodial equipment.

  14. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Custodial and maintenance employees.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma. Previous supervisory experience is preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest,

commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concept of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate. Possess an understanding of systems and how they work.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to drive between school buildings. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education policies.

The employee must be able to perform the following physical tasks:

  • Lift or carry equipment, supplies or bulk materials up to 100 pounds
  • Carry, lift, stand or walk with repetitive use of hands to manipulate
  • Assemble scaffolding and climb heights of up to forty feet
  • Use stepladder and access school roofs for repairs in inclement weather
  • Work beneath buildings to correct plumbing/heating problems
  • Operate a truck, snow plow and salt spreader
  • Use trenching/compacting equipment
  • Use power tools

The position requires the employee to work irregular or extended hours, meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works indoors and outdoors, as the task requires. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, spray, and non-household dust. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. Frequently the employee will work alone or with coworkers and work irregular or extended hours.

The noise level in this position varies from quiet to loud.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The Facilities Shift Supervisor is a twelve (12) month position with salary and benefits established by individual contract and Board action.
