Model Builder

Job Description

The Model Builder will work closely with new business inquiries to add gas service to various sites, including residential, commercial, and industrial locations. You will leverage Microsoft Excel to analyze millions of rows of data and query tables. Your goal will be to confidently present ideas for project quantities and installations, weighing the pros and cons of proposed improvements to build efficiencies. You'll engage with 30+ inquiries weekly, identifying data for new customers and evaluating project loads based on provided information.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain detailed utility models using GIS data, with each model spanning 69 months.
  • Extract, clean, and validate GIS data, ensuring data integrity by identifying anomalies.
  • Assign approximately 1.6 million customers in Atlanta to accurate geospatial points within the model.
  • Digitize construction prints and field work orders into digital models by drawing new infrastructure components.
  • Process and integrate around 100,000 new service requests annually into the model.
  • Conduct occasional field visits to validate data and provide a break from screen-based work.
  • Collaborate closely with other business units and the system planning team throughout the inquiry lifecycle.
  • Make recommendations based on model simulations and analyses.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering plans.
  • Experience in database management systems and engineering analysis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and present to directors, VPs, and CEOs.
  • Team-oriented with excellent collaboration and communication skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with MS Access and GIS (ArcGIS, etc.) is ideal.
  • Back ground in hydraulic analysis and curiosity about fluid and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience with modeling analysis using Excel and Access.
  • Relevant internships in engineering or related fields.
Work Environment

The consultant will work in a cubicle alongside other team members on the Model Building/Planning team. The environment is highly team-focused and collaborative, requiring excellent communication and attention to detail. Core business hours are from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM, with flexibility as long as hours are consistent. The role requires working 40 hours a week, with a need to start by 8:30 AM at the latest. The team in Atlanta consists of five other employees.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
