HVAC Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:

The HVAC Technician performs maintenance on and monitors the buildings Physical Plant, Air Compressor Plants, Domestic Hot Water Systems, Air handling System, and Critical Climate Control Systems. They monitor and maintain the buildings control systems. This position is responsible for cleanliness of the assigned areas and serviceability of special tools needed to support the assigned areas of responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Performs preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance of the physical plant, air compressor plant, domestic hot water system, air handling systems, and chemical treatment systems.
• Monitors and diagnoses problems with the buildings control systems.
• Monitors and maintains the Data Center and Wiring Closets climate control systems.
• Includes evaluating performance of contractors maintaining these critical systems.
• Monitors and evaluates the fuel storage systems supporting the physical plant to include maintaining documentation for the underground storage tank and fuel usage reporting.
• Monitors and helps maintain housekeeping in the air handler penthouses, air compressor rooms, and physical plant areas.
• Assist with accountability and serviceability of the special tools and parts needed to maintain areas of responsibility.
• Monitors and diagnoses problems with Life Support Systems temperature controls.
• ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum Degree Required: High School Diploma
• Preferred Degree: 2-year trade school or associates
• Experience: 5 years of experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:

• Understanding of building automation systems

• N/A

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Regularly walks, stands, sits, performs computer work and lifts up to 50lbs.

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT :

• Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures and innovation. Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems. Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments. Often makes recommendations to work procedures, policies, and practices.
