Job Summary
Performs a full range of carpentry tasksincluding alteration, repair, maintenance, and modification of Exchangeowned buildings and structures. Projects range from largescale facility renovations to the construction of snack bars, closets, benches, tables, and other custom items. Works from oral instructions, work orders, blueprints, and handdrawn sketches with minimal supervision, ensuring all work meets established trade standards.

Structural Carpentry
Install rafters, studs, sills, plates, joists, braces, subfloors, and flooring
Apply sheathing, siding, roofing (sheet, roll, or shingle), insulation, and building paper
Finish & Trim
Fabricate and set door/window frames, trim, casing, chairrail, and baseboards
Plane, sand, mortise, dowel, nail/bolt/glue parts; ensure alignment and level
Install flooring, window sashes, shelves, cabinets, bookcases, counters, bulletin boards, and duct enclosures
Roofing & Exterior
Lay roll and shingle roofing, ensuring proper overlap and watertight seal
Apply caulking and fillers where airtight/watertight seals are required
Hardware & Fixtures
Drill, trim, and prep components for hinges, locks, latches, and other hardware
Fit and align doors, windows, and ventilators
Tool Use
Operate a full range of hand tools (hammers, chisels, planes, saws) and power tools (circular/reciprocating saws, routers, sanders, nail guns) safely and efficiently
General Keep job sites and shop areas neat and hazardfree
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
General Experience: 1year of maintenance or construction work demonstrating familiarity with basic carpentry practices.
Specialized Experience: 2years' proven carpentry experience that includes reading blueprints, framing, roofing, finish work, and safe use of power tools.
Education Substitution: Completion of high school or equivalent may substitute for up to 1year of general experience.
Physical Requirements
Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing (ladders/scaffolds).
Ability to work in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions.
Regularly lifts and carries items up to 50lbs.
Working Conditions
Duties performed indoors and outdoors; indoor areas are usually heated, lighted, and ventilated.
Exposure to noise, dust, dirt, and debris from hand and power tools.
Risks include cuts, bruises, and possible falls from ladders or scaffolding; strict adherence to safety procedures required.
General Experience:
One (1) year of experience that provided the knowledge and ability to perform basic carpentry tasks. This includes work such as:
Measuring and cutting materials to required lengths and dimensions
Nailing, bolting, doweling, and gluing components
Planning, sanding, trimming, drilling, and finishing materials
Using a variety of hand and power tools to complete general carpentry assignments
Substitution of Education for Experience:
Successfully completed high school education may be substituted for general experience at the rate of one (1) year of high school for three (3) months of general experience.
A High School Diploma or GED may be credited as one (1) full year of general experience.
Specialized Experience:
Five (5) years of carpentry experience that demonstrates:
Performing skilled carpentry work involving modification, repair, and new construction
Reading and interpreting work orders, sketches, or blueprints to plan and carry out tasks
Repairing and installing structural items such as rafters, studs, sills, door/window frames, and trim (both interior and exterior)
Maintaining or modifying buildings and constructing various structures including retail spaces, service areas, and customer-facing features such as snack bars, closets, benches, counters, and tables
Physical Requirements:
Work requires regular standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing
Assignments may involve working in cramped, stretched, or awkward positions on ladders, scaffolds, or in confined spaces
Must be able to lift and carry materials and tools weighing up to 50 pounds
