Safety Manager

The Safety Manager is responsible for fostering and maintaining a safe work environment on assigned projects. This role requires thorough knowledge of daily safety operations, including planning, coordinating, and enforcing safety policies and regulations. The Safety Manager acts as the primary safety liaison between the company, project owners, subcontractors, regulatory bodies the team.

Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Oversee the new hire safety orientation program and deliver ongoing job-specific safety training.

  • Conduct daily safety inspections of the site and safety equipment; remove any defective equipment and manage fall protection gear inspections.

  • Develop and maintain a schedule for preparing, submitting, reviewing, and approving Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).

  • Create, implement, and continuously update comprehensive Job Hazard Analyses.

  • Ensure subcontractors adhere to all safety and health requirements.

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret safety-related data such as near-misses, incidents, and injuries.

  • Participate in root cause investigations for accidents and injuries, compiling reports and documentation.

  • Maintain accurate site safety records and provide detailed weekly safety reports.

  • Attend and contribute to pre-construction and pre-work safety meetings.

  • Organize and lead mass safety meetings and weekly toolbox talks.

  • Prepare materials, agendas, and minutes for safety meetings.

  • Coordinate substance abuse testing and arrange medical clinics for new hires.

  • Facilitate the “return to work” program in collaboration with employees, medical staff, and project management.

  • Serve as the point of contact for workers’ compensation reporting, case management, recordkeeping, and claims processing.

  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, NFPA standards, and other relevant safety codes.

  • Demonstrate expertise in construction safety and industrial hygiene practices.

  • Preferred certifications include CSP, ASP, CIH, OHST, and CHST.

  • Engage with regulatory agencies, safety professionals, and legal representatives as needed.

  • Utilize intermediate to advanced computer skills, especially Microsoft Office applications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree focused on Industrial Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum of 5 years of full-time safety experience, ideally within the construction industry, including federal construction projects.

  • Current HAZWOPER 40-hour certification.

  • Training in Asbestos and Lead safety.

  • OSHA 30-hour construction safety certification.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical demands include repetitive hand and finger movements, arm reaching, sitting, standing, kneeling, crouching, and walking on uneven and changing construction sites.

  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders in construction zones.

  • Reasonable accommodations may be provided to assist individuals with disabilities.

  • Vision requirements include close and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

  • May require lifting, carrying, and handling tools.

  • Must be capable of performing various tasks related to construction projects and machinery operation.

  • Exposure to varying noise levels, moving machinery, high elevations, airborne particles, weather conditions, and electrical hazards.
