Perform skilled work in the checking, inspecting, repair, maintenance, installation and construction of plant equipment and apparatus.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.) Diagnose trouble, dismantle, overhaul, reassemble and install and repair equipment in the performance of duties such as: general repairs to boilers, pulverizers, generators, turbines, valves, electric motors, pumps, boiler gauge glass, sootblowers, air compressors; preheater conveyors, tractors, carryall and locomotive; fabricate and install pipe and fittings to specifications indicated on shop drawings or construction prints. Inspect, repair or install insulation and covering. Use monitoring equipment such as vibration and thermal test equipment to assess equipment and conditions and to perform single plane balancing; clean water jackets, clean inner and after coolers

2.) Operate all shop and portable machine tools in work which requires determining methods of machining and producing accurate measurements on simple contours. Do general machine work that does not require a closer tolerance than plus or minus .002.

3.) Perform all position non-code electric arc and oxyacetylene structural and pipe welding, brazing, silver and soft soldering on equipment that does not require welding certification.

4.) Assist, dismantle, overhaul, reassemble and install electrical equipment. Obtain permits and determine that equipment to be worked on has been properly cleared and tagged. .

5.) Perform carpentry, masonry and painting work such as fabricate and erect heavy scaffolding, build skids and protective covering for equipment and material, repairs to buildings and structures, hang doors, finish concrete, lay brick, serve as lead person on major painting jobs and perform skilled painting. Maintain equipment, tools and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.

6.) Operate and maintain mobile equipment. Operate automotive equipment and its associated equipment and perform duties incidental to the operation of such equipment. Perform rigging and blocking that does not require use of two hooks on bridge crane such as turning turbine shells; erect and remove scaffolding.

7.) Inspect, check and prepare plant systems and equipment for start-up and shutdown. Perform local operations to place equipment in service. Perform auxiliary switching as required. Assist in isolating equipment and placing clearance tags, as directed.

8.) Perform duties in accordance with operating instructions, safety regulations and current practices. Prepare & maintain records as required. Assist instruct and help train other employees in work of this nature. Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned. Report irregularities and abnormal conditions to the appropriate supervision.

9.) Train for and carry out assignments in fire-fighting, first aid and other emergency response program.

10.) Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education requirements are listed below: Two year Associate degree in engineering technology, industrial technology, energy technology or equivalent.

Work Experience requirement listed below: 2- years of military experience or an Associate 's degree outside this field plus the following:

1. Must have performed the duties of and met all qualifications (including completion of all job demos) of Equipment Operator Jr. (in-the-maintenance-line-of-progression) and the Maintenance Mechanic Jr. positions

2. Must be able to pass an examination, if required. Normally achieved with 2080 hours as a Maintenance Mechanic-Jr or equivalent.

3. Must have a thorough and working knowledge of the layout, construction and functions of the equipment & apparatus in and about the plant, plant maintenance, materials, practices, tools, rigging, scaffolding and blocking involved in the work.

4. Must be able to read, interpret and work from complex prints and specifications.

5. Must have a thorough working knowledge of equipment procedures and the rules, safety practices & procedures applicable to the work.

6. Must have demonstrated the ability to lead and direct and coordinate work.

Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below: Must possess the appropriate State driver license and obtain and maintain all necessary certifications and licenses as required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Physical demand level is Medium

1. Must be able to climb ladders & stairs a number of times each day.

2. Must be able to use fine dexterity to move switches & controls to precise locations

3. Must be able to detect color on alarms, equipment & other devices

4. Must be able to hear announcements on the Plant PA system, and to hear abnormal sounds of plant equipment

5. Must be able to communicate plant information by phone, in person or by radio

6. Must be able to work on heights, grating, platforms and catwalks.

7. Must be able to exert up to 50 lbs. of pressure to manually turn off valves.

8. Must be able to stand or walk continuously for up to 12 hours.

Compensation Range:

$36.55-40.30 USD

The Physical Demand Level for this job is: M Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
