POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Project Manager plays a key role in the successful management and execution of projects. This individual will support the Senior Engineer and provide technical and engineering leadership, as well as successful delivery of work to our customers. This position will provide project support in the project development process and continued project evolution.

The Project Manager is responsible for a high level of customer satisfaction by ensuring expectations are clearly communicated and managed – both externally and internally. The successful candidate will also create a dynamic team environment by mentoring and coaching colleagues and fostering a highly collaborative working environment. This person will also actively support the business development process, through the writing of proposals and meeting with prospective and current customers, thereby clearly articulating KFI’s value proposition and unique differentiators.

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Oversees projects in the department to ensure that KFI quality, customer satisfaction and financial objectives are met.
  • Actively manages assigned projects, driving them to completion. This will require a combination of strong delegation and follow-up, combined with personal execution of the technical work as needed. Actively participates in weekly project management meetings.
  • Allocates department resources to each project to ensure effective utilization and development of staff.
  • Ensures that new opportunities are properly defined, scoped and priced. Actively contributes to all aspects of the business development process (i.e., proposals, conferences, and customer meetings). Actively participates in weekly marketing meetings.
  • Ensures the development, coaching, and mentoring of the talent needed to meet current and future organization goals.
  • Assists with facilitating goal setting and performance reviews. Assists senior staff with their weekly one-on-one meetings with direct reports
  • Provides technical support to other project team members, departments, and disciplines. Conducts quality reviews on other projects as needed.
  • Reviews invoices, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of billing activity.
  • Ensures staff resources and team expertise are appropriately applied for effective and efficient project delivery.
  • Applies principles from science and engineering and construction to solve problems while being engaged in the development of engineering deliverables (i.e. PFD’s, P&IDs, process calculations, and piping design).
  • Provides work direction to other team members, including subconsultants, as assigned.
  • Provides leadership for equipment procurement, including equipment sizing & selection, specifications, bid packages, vendor selection, and bid award. Leads equipment shop drawing review and equipment delivery tracking efforts.
  • Drives cross functional coordination (both internal and external); including meeting management, schedule coordination, maintains project decisions and action log, and ensures timely follow up.
  • Responsible for project documentation, including, but not limited to, initial project set up, master engineering deliverable list, project monthly reporting (KPI’s), and engineering code compliance.
  • Creates or reviews technical reports as part of studies or project narratives. Knows the audience and tailors writing to an appropriate level of abstraction for recipients.
  • Responsible and oversees the project document control process within KFI standards by utilizing the Project Coordinators to maintain the master deliverable list and other project documents.
  • Ensures KFI QA/QC process is being met within the defined project schedule.
  • Actively engaged in the support of project team during the construction phase, including, but not limited to submittals, RFI’s, construction meetings, resolving field questions, cost control, and equipment delivery tracking.
  • Contributes to and supports the project commissioning and start up teams as projects reach Construction phase.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Construction Management, degree in a related field OR equivalent experience.
  • Construction Management experience.
  • Experience with projects in industrial (ie agribusiness) and/or clean manufacturing.
  • A strong proficiency in MEP design, preferably with a focus on science, agribusiness, clean manufacturing and/or technology.
  • Five plus years of project management experience.
  • A basic understanding of Architectural, Electrical, Civil and Structural Engineering construction practices is required.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge of project management best practices, related tools and processes.
  • The person will possess strong communication skills, and influencing skills, and have demonstrated self-confidence to work with senior business leaders and customers.
  • The successful candidate will be naturally collaborative and possess the ability to assimilate a range of ideas, programs or alternatives into a set of recommendations.
  • This position requires the ability to be self-directed but thrive in an environment where consultation leads to superior outcomes.

  • Travel: May include up to 25% travel.

Working Conditions

  • Some work locations will feature the tough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment.
