PRIMARY FUNCTION: The job of Assistant Director of Construction is done for the purpose/s of assisting the Director of Construction in directing construction practices; providing information and serving as a resource to the Director of Construction and others; achieving defined objectives by planning, evaluating, developing, implementing and maintaining services; verifying guidelines are followed; serving as an expert in matters of local and state construction practices; and serving as a member of the Muscogee County School District leadership team.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Educational Level:

Bachelor’s degree in job-related area required

2. Certification/License:

Valid Driver’s License required.

3. Experience/Equivalency:

Ten (10) plus years Georgia K-12 construction project experience with architecture degree.

4. Physical Activities:

Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities. The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and some fine finger dexterity.

5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; construction process, including role of architect, reading of plans and specifications, and basic building systems.

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: developing and administering budgets; operating standard office equipment; planning and managing multiple projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records.

ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1.

Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.

2.

Advises Director of Construction on matters of construction for the purpose of providing information on various construction needs and ensuring GaDOE facilities compliance.

3.

Works with the Director of Construction/architects/engineers/project coordinators through multiple means to keep projects on time and within budget for the purpose of ensuring that all funds and projects are allocated correctly.

4.

Works with the Director of Construction/architects/engineer/project coordinators to verify that meaningful stakeholder engagement has occurred for vetting scope identification and that all project scope has been completed with quality workmanship and active warranties.

5.

Monitors internal controls, work processes, programs for managing the financial operations of the organization for the purpose of ensuring accurate and timely accounting in accordance with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.

6.

Compiles data from internal and external sources for the purpose of analyzing issues, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, and/or monitoring program components.

7.

Collaborates with a wide variety of internal and external groups (e.g. department heads, directors, auditors, community organizations, regulatory agencies, etc.) for the purpose of implementing program components; creating long- and short-term plans; and addressing organizational objectives.

8.

Assist the Director of Construction in coordinating all activities related to construction (e.g. selection of architects/engineers, bid process on projects, design of district facilities, monitoring of construction, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring an effective work unit.

9.

Monitors and enforces a wide variety of contract documents (e.g. plans, proposals, and AIA contract documents.) for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services and/or programs.

10.

Makes continuous observations of projects for the purpose of insuring compliance to construction documents.

11.

Manages the overall change order document process and related documents for the purpose of achieving organizational objectives while complying with established requirements and following industry best practices.

12.

Assist in monitoring programs and/or department activities for the purpose of ensuring that performance objectives are met within budget and in compliance with established operational practices.

13.

Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of representing the school district on all matters of construction with the Director of Construction, architects, contractors, and others.

14.

Responds to a wide variety of inquiries from internal and external sources for the purpose of identifying relevant issues and recommending or implementing action plans.

15.

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
