Survey Technician

Technical work involving field work and office processing all survey data in support of all County survey projects. Member of a survey team capable of operating all of the survey instruments required in day to day completion of all tasks. Capable of performing some calculations, reading engineering plans, keeping field notes and filling in when the party chief is absent.

**Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description.

**Additional compensation based on licensure.

Essential Functions

These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position.

Performs and assists crew with survey measurements and rod and chain duties when applicable.

Accurately operates various types of survey equipment, including Total Stations, Electronic Levels, GPS receivers, Data Collectors. Is responsible for the care and calibration of said equipment.

Keeps accurate survey notes and understands data collection procedures.

Reviews field notes and boundary information for accuracy and completeness.

Maintains all survey records and provides survey information to other County departments and the general public as necessary.

Creates, updates, and maintains County's Horizontal and Vertical control books and maps.

Assist the rod and chain worker in keeping the truck stocked with supplies and clean.

Additional Duties :
Assists the lead technician, Survey Party Chief, Assistance County Surveyor, and County Surveyor whenever necessary or assigned.

Performs other related work as required.

In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of high school/GED and two (2) years' progressively responsible technical surveying experience required; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

Survey Technicians Level I & II certifications preferred.

Must possess and maintain a valid FL driver's license.

Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems, computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.

Ability to safety use and service common hand tools, including machete, brush axe and chain saw.

Ability to lift more than 60 pounds.

Additional Requirements

Considerable technical knowledge of field and office survey support procedures.

Ability to organize and manage database record keeping systems.

Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
