The Manager of Infection Prevention Environmental Health is responsible for Overseeing the enterprise-wide water management and air quality programs, ensuring compliance with infection prevention and environmental health standards, assisting with risk assessments, and providing expertise in infection prevention strategies related to water and HVAC systems. This position directly supervises Infection Prevention team members that work directly on environmental health issues.
- 35% Oversight of Water Management & Air Quality Program
- Propose, update, and communicate institutional policies related to the air and water quality programs across the enterprise. Ensure consistent application of organizational air and water quality policies.
- Oversee the water management program & air quality program across inpatient and ambulatory care settings across the clinical enterprise.
- Organize and lead regular Water Management Team Meetings and any necessary Ad Hoc Subgroup Meetings. This includes Enterprise meetings as well as site specific meetings.
- Oversee regular Air Quality Meetings and any necessary Ad Hoc Meetings
- Oversee work related to Water Management Plan recommendations, including water sampling and testing for Legionella, chlorine, and temperature compliance.
- 25% Ensure compliance with Accreditation & Regulatory Standards related to preventing infections from water and air sources in the environment.
- Oversight of Critical Water in Reprocessing Areas
- Trending Dialysis Data ensuring follow up as needed
- Oversight of water testing outlined by Water Management Plan
- Oversight of air testing as outlined by Air Management Plan
- Oversight of secondary disinfection system testing
- Ensure regular updates and reports are provided to committees such as the Infection Control Committee and the Environment of Care Committee.
- Oversee the review and updates of the Annual Water Management Plan/Risk Assessment.
- 25% Manage operating functions of the department.
- Direct supervision over Environmental Health Specialists and other team members.
- Identify opportunities for improvement in departmental operations related to risk of infections from the environment.
- Resolve issues swiftly and with minimal conflict.
- Make decisions and provide direction to team members that support the goals and objectives established by the division director.
- Responsible for all subordinate staff activities related to human resource management (hiring, promotion, salary changes, performance coaching, disciplinary actions, training and development, ensuring consistent application of organizational policies, etc.)
- 10% Provide subject matter expertise across the clinical enterprise for any outbreak investigations potentially related to water or HVAC systems.
- Oversee the completion of risk assessments of vulnerable areas concerning water or HVAC system exposures.
- Recommend appropriate actions to mitigate potential exposures or outbreaks from water or HVAC systems.
- Provide subject matter expertise for design for construction & renovation projects related to water and HVAC systems
- 5% Other Duties as Assigned
- Education:
- Master's degree in Environmental Health Science
- Experience:
- Eight to ten years in Environmental Health within healthcare preferred
- Expertise or training in water quality and safety required.
- Required certifications
- National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) Certification, American Society of Safety Engineers Certification, Non-Community Secondary Treatment Level D-5+ Certification
- Skills:
- Excellent communication, presentation, and analytical skills.
- Ability to influence change, manage multiple projects, and work independently and in teams.
- Must be self-motivated with the ability to travel to various sites for assessments and inspections and to inspect plumbing and HVAC systems (may be on rooftops)
