We are seeking a passionate Senior Business Development Manager to join our Sales Team and help advance our mission of reducing greenhouse gas emissions at scale. Due to our geographical market focus, we are looking for one experienced candidate in either Oregon, Washington or San Francisco Bay area.

Taper, powered by Ecology Action, is dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas emissions at scale by making energy efficiency easy for large commercial businesses. We provide energy savings solutions to large commercial customers by brokering multi-site projects between utility funded incentive programs, installation partners, and equipment vendors. Taper is a wholly owned B-Corp subsidiary of Ecology Action; it's nonprofit and single shareholder.
About the Role
The Senior Business Development Manager is responsible for driving revenue growth across an assigned geographic territory, with a strategic focus on direct sales to regional and national food retail, hotel, and big box retail market segments. This role also includes recruiting and managing channel partners that serve these sectors and developing business opportunities through utility incentive programs.
This position requires expertise in energy efficiency technologies-particularly refrigeration and lighting-and a deep understanding of the operational needs and challenges within the food retail, hotel, and big box retail industries. The role plays a critical part in expanding Taper's market presence and influence in these sectors.
What you'll be doing
Market Engagement and Sales
Identifying and building relationships with decision makers within our target customers, understand their needs, pain points and buying criteria to inform a consultative sale approach
Prospect, engage, qualify, and develop key relationships with existing and/or potential partners, specifically with partner decision makers and senior executives
Engaging with utility program managers and account managers to collaborate in serving our shared customers and partners
Working to ensure high levels of Customer Service and satisfaction
Gathering energy end use information for customers and conduct site visits to identify project opportunities
Data Management and Reporting
Ensuring accurate information is entered into the Hubspot CRM in a timely manner, including email tracking, meeting logs, deal metrics, and other company, contact, and deal information
Providing accurate and timely forecasts to management
Market Awareness and Business Development
Developing a continuous understanding of new technologies related to your market
Collaborating with cross-functional teams to build deals that motivate customers and partners to act
Prospect to generate on-going new business using various methods, including but not limited to:
Attend, table, and speak at conferences and networking events
Expand into new opportunities through a network of new and existing relationships
Work with Utility representatives to follow up on qualified leads
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years of combined sales, partner management, and utility equivalent sales experience building highly consultative relationships over time
- Proven experience selling energy efficiency projects and utility incentive offerings
- Experience developing relationships with and facilitating conversations about funding multiple-site local or semi-national accounts
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be qualifying
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years proven experience serving large multi-site food retail, hotel, and big box retail sectors
- 6+ years proven experience in energy efficiency, refrigeration, HVAC, building management systems, or other related fields
- Experience working and selling into a channel
- Experience working and selling into utilities
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
- Experience with HubSpot or equivalent CRM
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated strong communication, written, and formal presentation skills with strategic accounts
- Self-motivated, pro-active, results-oriented professional with an ability to work with minimal direction
- Proficient in MS office products and experience maintaining a CRM
- Ability to prioritize with good time management and organizational skills
