Overview The supervisor must effectively communicate both verbally and written with all patients, physicians, and staff. Supervises all staff within the radiation oncology team. Orients staff on new equipment or procedures as well as other departmental procedures. Radiation oncology operational responsibilities will include assisting with and/or coordinating payroll, staff scheduling and training. Assistance may be asked in the development of capital budget requests as well as support of the operational budget. Assistance will also be given towards adherence to the operational budget as it relates to efficient utilization of staff and the ordering of supplies including minor equipment. Supervisor will be responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the department. Qualifications Certifications: Licensed Radiologic Technologist - Radiation Therapy - Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA); Registered in Radiation Therapy (T) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT); Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR); Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider - American Heart Association (AHA), Education: Bachelor's Degree: Nursing; Associate's Degree: Radiologic Technology (Required), Work Experience: Leadership Responsibilities Plans, Directs, and Evaluates Day-to-day activities to ensure quality patient outcomes. Balances team and individual responsibilities, objective and open to other's view, gives and welcomes feedback, contributes to positive team goals, puts success of team above own interest Communicates both verbally and written with patients, physicians, staff, and department Director. Utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psychosocial, spiritual, educational, safety and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area. Demonstrates ability to consistently meet the department work schedule to include efficient scheduling of Radiation Therapists, Nurses, and Front Desk Staff. Demonstrates ability to keep supplies current to meet the needs of the clinic. Conducts regular department meetings. Facilitates daily communication with staff while continuously evaluating staff performance. Functions effectively in an environment that is susceptible to change without notice, and that is influenced by the number and acuity of patients, amount of experience of staff and availability of treatment equipment. Sets work routines, expectations, and reinforces standards of practice. Educates, prepares, and reassures patients and their families by personal interaction and rapport building. Participates in a variety of clerical duties necessary for department functioning. Works in collaboration with members of the interdisciplinary team to assure care is coordinated across the continuum. Communicates effectively inter and intra departmentally with other healthcare professionals and customers to provide accurate, timely information and to reduce problems and minimize exceptions. Communicates with the department manager/director and documents as necessary when problems or unusual circumstances arise. Administers and supervises the daily activities of personnel in Radiation Oncology at the hospital and joint venture and procures necessary resources for personnel. Plans and schedules work for the group ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing, space and facilities for subsequent performance of duties. Completes hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, vacation schedules and corrective actions up to and including termination. Maintains department employee records for continued developmental and employee relations issues. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as DNV, IEMA, IDPH and FDA. Works with Radiation Safety Officer in monitoring personnel radiation dosimetry reports and takes corrective action when necessary. Develops and maintains established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives. Works closely with appropriate personnel ensure accurate and quality treatments are performed. Monitors, evaluates, and implements actions to improve employee and patient satisfaction. Provides opportunities for staff development and in-service programs. Supports the regulatory process by assisting with the inspection preparation and maintenance of standards of care Quality Improvement Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service. Works extended hours to meet clinic needs when necessary. Monitors labor cost daily using productivity models and measures (i.e. staffing to volume). Prepares reports setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Demonstrates a practical problem-solving approach to patient moving and handling issues. Ensures patient satisfaction levels result in positive trends. 95%ile or higher. Develops and implements new procedures and techniques to improve patient care. Reviews Event reports with the Director to determine causes and to provide for prevention of future incidents through counseling and education of staff and appropriate discipline. Serves on organization teams to improve care processes. Reviews and monitors documentation for completeness and accuracy. Maintains an environment that meets standards of safety, cleanliness and orderliness Works with the physicians in developing protocols and maintaining standards of care for Oncology patients. Participates in project management activities to improve the flow of patient care throughout the Oncology Service Line. Assists in department specific process improvements to achieve best practices. Participates in gathering data on PI initiatives, including chart review. Participates in determining root causes. Initiates and implements process improvements based on evidence-based practices and best practices in the delivery of care for oncology patients. Selects metrics to track patient outcomes. Networks with other departments and programs to seek best practice program design innovations. Participates in making recommendations to the department leader regarding utilization of supplies, equipment, and quality improvement. Monitors referring physicians with use of monthly dashboards. Compensation and Benefits The compensation range for this position is $45.25per hour - $77.83per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health.
