Our client, a leading Pacific Northwest utility provider committed to public service and environmental preservation, is looking for an Electrical Engineer Tech 3 for their Vancouver, WA location. This contract senior Electrical Engineer Tech position will provide electrical engineering tech and data steward support to various Substation Engineering organizations. This position will provide confidential and professional data steward services for a wide variety and large volume of project designs, drawings, communications, and associated / related documentation. Data steward services will be conducted following established policy, process and practice and will be provided to any number of Substation Engineering sub-orgs, such as Substation Design, Substation Project Engineering, Substation Project Scoping, and the Substation Engineering Support to which this position will report. In addition to the data steward support, this Electrical Engineering Tech will assist in the draft and development of Substation Engineering design related tasks which may include reviewing high voltage equipment drawings, defining, documenting and recommending equipment and material specifications; the evaluation of new equipment, which may include arranging and facilitating any required testing; and, developing / drafting and recommending templates, standards and guidance. The work of this position may also include drafting as-built drawings related to capital and expense projects completed on the transmission system.

Key Responsibilities for Electrical Engineer Tech 3:

Data Steward Duties:

Perform a variety of tasks related to proper management, storage, and attributing of engineering data and drawings, both electronic and paper.

Serve as a point-of-contact and resource for organizational data steward activities. Provide data stewardship and management of digital High Voltage Project Engineering and other Substation Engineering designs. This work may include maintaining records in the appropriate state; free of encumbrance and hindrance for immediate utilization by internal designers and external contractors; and sustaining the ProjectWise attributes design policy.

Utilize tools such as ProjectWise advanced search techniques, and legacy records to locate, research and identify existing drawings and other records relating to Substation Engineering.

Gather data from various paper and electronic engineering drawings or legacy data systems and prepare/tabulate that data for archival in ProjectWise, SharePoint, or another assigned storage / receptacle device.

Research missing data points and data quality issues, which may involve using existing paper and electronic records/drawings in various locations to locate missing data or correct inconsistencies.

Update and maintain attributes and metadata of Substation Engineering drawings and documents in ProjectWise.

Provide technician support to design engineers and technicians within the group in the form of reports, consolidation papers, printing design packages, preparing drawing lists, coordinating release of work-in-process (WIP) designs, and other CAD or technician needs.

Conduct routine review of existing design standards; update as needed using CAD software.

Contribute to and/or upgrade SharePoint site by providing access and links to design data, standards and work processes.

Review A&E contracted design submittals for adherence to CAD Standards and document control.

Review internal design submittals for adherence to CAD Standards and document control.

High Voltage Equipment Specifications - Drawing Submittals and Database Maintenance.

Substation Design - Document Coordination.

Provide assistance to other groups requesting high voltage equipment drawings, documents or reports, providing written and verbal assistance with the use of storage devices and retrieval procedures, processes and practices.

Electrical Engineering Tech Duties:

Draft work from engineers using advanced CAD skills and proper CAD and organizational standards.

Assist in the review and modification of diagrams and design drawings, using Micro Station CAD software.

Draft work from as-built drawings for capital and expense projects completed in the field. As-built mark-ups may contain drafting from Substation Outdoor electrical equipment, Data Systems, Telecommunication, RAS, and facilities drawings.

Assist in pre-engineering calculations and research, to control product reliability and accuracy for engineering, technical, and commercial applications.

Train new CAD Technicians and engineers in processes, procedures, practices and standards; share knowledge of Substation Engineering.

Perform a 90% review on assigned design projects produced by internal design groups and external A&E Service Contract design vendors; verify compliance with the Substation Project Engineering organization.

Identify sold facilities, make corrections and prepare drawings, and issue for appropriate digital federal signature.

Coordinate availability of designs with contracting firms and the indoor design groups to facilitate design needs.

Identify designs and bills of materials that require voiding; prepare void and revision packages per procedure.

Requirements/Qualification for Electrical Engineer Tech 3:

A degree in Electrical Engineering (or related technical discipline) is preferred.

With an applicable Bachelor s degree, 6 yrs of experience is required.

With an applicable Associates degree, 8 years of experience is required.

Without an applicable degree, 10 years of experience is required.

Experience should include electrical design work that is technical in nature.

10 years directly related experience as an Electrical Technician or CAD support.

5 years experience working with data storage, database management, and records maintenance.

Valid U.S. Driver s License is required.
