POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Spray paints a wide variety of parts with lacquers, enamel, and undercoats to produce flat, gloss, semi-gloss, wrinkle, and suede finishes. Performs work of appreciable difficulty, where areas are not easily accessible due to unusual contours and irregular shapes, as well as several raised or depressed surfaces. Performs visual inspection of all material prior to painting. Thins and strains paints to required consistencies and viscosities to produce specified finishes. Checks quality of paints and thinners. May operate baking oven and monitors temperatures and bake cycle times. Performs miscellaneous related assignments, such as masking, packaging, etc. Cleans and maintains paint room.
Classification:
Ordinary brush or spray operations, involving prime or finish coat painting of manufactured products requiring neat, ordinary finishes. Mix paint products as required. May include hand or conveyer painting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Prepares surfaces for painting, texturing, and covering by sanding, scraping, washing, and brushing to remove old paint, rust, scales, and irregular surfaces.
Mix paints by adding thinners as necessary to achieve proper consistency.
Maintains and services painting equipment and hand and power tools.
Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.
Work with exposure to potentially hazardous paints and coating materials.
A respirator fit test and examination may be required.

RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS:
The painter is required to be on their feet for up to twelve hours using their hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear around machinery. They will also be required to frequently walk, stoop, kneel or crouch.
The painter must be capable of lifting and moving up to 15 pounds; frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus on optical devices. Should be able to distinguish between colors for purposes of noticing colors on parts
Individuals will work near moving mechanical parts of machinery and electrically activated devices.
Individuals are occasionally exposed to airborne particles.
Perform math skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
Knowledge of decimals, fractions, and metric/English conversions
Participate in continuous improvement activities that result in reducing variation and waste in the manufacturing process
Using a specified training format, work closely in training new painters
Overtime is typically voluntary. However, during busy production periods overtime will be required.
