Function: Packaging Engineering
Division: Professional Product Division
Location: Streetsboro
Reports To: Director Shp/Rec/Promo
Who We Are: For more than a century, L'Oreal has devoted its energy, innovation, and scientific excellence solely to one business: Beauty. Our goal is to offer each and every person around the world the best of beauty in terms of quality, efficacy, safety, sincerity and responsibility to satisfy all beauty needs and desires in their infinite diversity.
At L'Oreal Operations, we create innovative, inclusive, and sustainable beauty together with our business partners by designing, developing, sourcing, manufacturing, and distributing over 6 billion products globally every year. We support over 36 brands across four L'Oreal divisions. We are consumer-oriented, and we act responsibly all along the value chain.
What You Will Do: As a Packaging Engineer, you will be instrumental in identifying and implementing viable packaging solutions, primarily focusing on corrugate materials for promotional prepacks. Your role involves a blend of technical expertise, project management, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure efficient and compliant packaging operations.
Key responsibilities include:
Packaging Innovation & Feasibility: Identify viable packaging options and provide expert advice on the technical feasibility and associated risks of promotions and reworks. This includes preparing prototypes for ship (5 point drop) testing on all new kits and continuously developing and maintaining knowledge of new or emerging trends in packaging technology.
Cost Optimization: Analyze opportunities to achieve material and labor cost savings through innovative packaging solutions and processes.
Project Management: Manage multiple packaging projects concurrently to meet established timelines. This entails overseeing approximately 150 Bills of Materials (BOMs) across the entire team's PAR Calls, providing feedback on kit boxes, signing off, and accurately entering information into the DPM system.
Technical Compliance & Documentation: Define and ensure adherence to L'Oreal technical standards for packaging, including orientation, labeling, pack out, hazardous material considerations, and the creation of promo codes and Purchase Orders (P.O.s) in Materials Management (MM) system when warranted.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Interface regularly with promo planners through weekly PAR calls and daily communication regarding quantity changes, production output, labor instructions, and labor rates. You will also coordinate with third-party labor for deliveries, brainstorm challenges, and resolve production line prioritization issues.
Execution & Administration: Take full responsibility for executing promos and reworks for 9 distinct brands. Administrative duties include creating and maintaining corrugate purchase orders, updating bills of materials with corrugate components, creating all master codes, and defining pallet specifications. You will also manage billing for all Pack size activity and oversee invoice management, particularly for reworks.
Operational Support: Perform other duties as necessary, including projects related to Assembly Shared Services, creating Purchase Orders for plants/marketing/compliance (e.g., bleaches), managing Request for Proposal (RFP) specifications, and supporting traceability projects.
Travel & On-site Support: Undertake minimal local travel to customer sites for troubleshooting and creating shipper samples on pack size equipment.
Team Leadership & Development: Support recruitment efforts for Co-op students at universities. You will also manage a team of one Co-op with a 6-month rotation plan, coordinate with Promo Planning, and supervise the SAW Group's execution of in-house reworks.
Leadership Backup: Act as a backup to the Promo Assembly Director, ensuring continuity of operations and leadership when needed.
