Transportation Engineer (2 openings junior & senior level)

Job Summary:

Under light supervision, the Senior Transportation Engineer leads the planning, design, and delivery of complex transportation infrastructure projects, including highways, tunnels, mass transit systems, and aviation facilities. This role involves technical design, regulatory compliance, client engagement, mentorship, and proposal development. The engineer ensures that all project deliverables meet client expectations, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities: Project Design & Delivery
  • Develops engineering designs for transportation infrastructure projects ranging from basic to high complexity.
  • Reviews and approves design documents to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Conducts site visits and field studies to validate design assumptions and ensure alignment with site-specific conditions.
  • Updates and refines design requirements based on field data, stakeholder input, and regulatory changes.
  • Performs inspections of new and existing transportation structures to assess condition and ensure design integrity.
Technical Leadership & Knowledge Management
  • Provides technical guidance and oversight to junior engineers and design staff.
  • Mentors junior team members, supporting their professional development and growth within the firm.
  • May supervise and review the work of junior engineers on assigned projects.
  • Contributes to the firms technical knowledge base by authoring white papers, case studies, and technical documentation.
  • Submits technical papers and innovative design solutions for publication in industry journals and presentations at conferences.
Client Engagement & Business Development
  • Collaborates with business development and sales teams to prepare technical content for proposals and RFP responses.
  • Reviews draft proposals to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with applicable regulations and best practices.
  • Participates in client meetings to understand current and future project needs and provide strategic design input.
  • Represents the firm at industry conferences, symposia, and networking events to enhance visibility and promote services.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
  • Ensures adherence to firm policies, quality standards, and industry best practices across all project phases.
  • Stays current with evolving transportation engineering standards, technologies, and regulatory frameworks.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 7+ years of experience in transportation infrastructure design and project delivery.
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, InRoads, or similar.
  • Strong knowledge of FHWA, AASHTO, FAA, and local transportation design standards.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and client-facing skills.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $110000.00/yr.
