GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Custodial Supervisor/Maintenance Technician is responsible for overseeing custodial staff and ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and maintenance of facilities. This role includes hands-on cleaning and repair work, scheduling custodial duties, performing minor maintenance tasks, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations
LOCATION: King William County Public Schools - Division Wide
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12-months
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent; technical training a plus.
3+ years of custodial or maintenance experience, including 1+ years in a supervisory role.
Knowledge of cleaning methods, tools, and safety procedures.
Basic knowledge of building systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC).
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work on ladders or in confined spaces.
Valid driver's license (if applicable).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Custodial Supervision:
Supervise, train, and evaluate custodial staff.
Develop and manage cleaning schedules.
Ensure staff comply with organizational policies and safety regulations.
Inspect facilities to ensure cleanliness and proper maintenance.
Order and maintain cleaning supplies and equipment.
Perform Building Inspections to ensure the quality of work is being met.
In the absence of sufficient cleaning staff, you are expected to assist with their duties
Maintenance Duties:
Perform minor electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry repairs.
Conduct routine inspections of facilities and equipment.
Report major repair needs to the Director of Operations.
Ensure safe use and proper storage of tools and materials.
Maintains and upgrades facility grounds, lawns, and shrubbery, e.g. mows lawns, trims hedges/edges
Loads and Unload trucks
Administrative:
Maintain records of cleaning schedules, maintenance work, and supply usage.
Assist in preparing reports related to custodial and maintenance activities.
Support budgeting needs related to custodial supplies and maintenance tools.
WORKING CONDITIONS
May require evening, weekend, or emergency work.
Exposure to cleaning chemicals and minor hazards (tools, electrical systems).
Primarily indoor work with some outdoor tasks e.g. mowing grass
