Position: Electrician II/General Maintenance

Electrician II: Means a person employed as an electrician journeyman or one who holds a journeyman's electrician license issued by the state fire marshal

General Maintenance: Personnel employed as a helper to skilled maintenance employees and to perform minor repairs to equipment and buildings of a county school system.

Qualifications: Completion of a high school diploma or its equivalent

Must currently hold a journeyman electrician license

Verifiable general building, maintenance and grounds experience is required

Must be able to understand and follow written and oral instructions

Possess writing skills to be able to complete assigned written reports

Ability to work from sketches and blueprints

Have ability to develop and maintain an effective working relationship with others

Pass state developed tests to indicate minimum competencies in each area of job

classification as titled or hold/have held such title of employment with a county board

of education

Reports to: Director of Facilities and Maintenance, Superintendent or Designee

Characteristics of Position: Good knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, techniques and equipment of the electrical trade; good knowledge of pertinent electrical codes, good knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in generalized building and grounds maintenance; some skilled work may be done as a trades helper in assisting a craftsman in work; and performs related work as required. Good knowledge of general building and grounds maintenance work, including skill in the use and care of the common tools and equipment. Good knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, techniques, good knowledge of occupational hazards of the trade and precautionary measures to be observed.

Performance Responsibilities: Follows all safety procedures for the job being performed. Perform journeyman's skill in the application of principles and practices of the electrical trade. Must follow county policies and procedures; maintain positive work habits and attitudes; perform duties efficiently and productively, maintain and/or upgrade skills as required; promote positive public communications; maintain professional appearance; must be punctual and minimize absences; take initiative in performing assigned tasks. Complete work orders, handles emergency situations efficiently. Perform all other maintenance tasks as assigned by supervisor. Lifting, moving, pushing, or pulling a minimum of 100 lbs.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated twice a year for employees with a continuing contract and three times a year for employees with a probationary contract. This is in accordance with provisions of the Hancock County Board of Education Policy on Evaluation of Service Personnel.
