Heavy Equipment Mechanic Lead "WTRS" Fort Irwin, CA
This position is full time for the National Training Center Training Support Contract (NTCTSC) at the National Training Center (NTC). NTCTSC brings to bear the full capabilities of many of the world's best systems integration and engineering companies in the technical integration of live, virtual and constructive (LVC) training support.
The NTCTSC is located at Fort Irwin, CA in the Mojave Desert approximately forty miles northeast of Barstow, CA. NTCTSC operations support the NTC mission to provide realistic joint and combined arms training and is focused on developing soldiers, leaders, and units of the United States military for success on the 21st Century Battlefield.
V2X has a requirement for a Lead Mechanic, Heavy Equipment with experience in heavy equipment repair. The Lead Mechanic, Heavy Equipment will manage and maintain the maintenance of all Government Furnished and Contractor Acquired property for V2x and its subcontractors for the Training Support Contract at Fort Irwin.
- Standard work week will be five (5) day per week for up to eight (8) hours per day while at CONUS work sites(s) and a flexible schedule should OCONUS travel be required.
- There may be instances of extended hours should need arise. Work may include nights, holidays and weekends on short notice. Essential Functions:
- Diagnosis and Repair:
- Identifying mechanical issues, determining the extent of repairs needed, and executing repairs on various heavy equipment like excavators, loaders, dozers, cranes, and more.
- Preventative Maintenance: Performing routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and inspections to prevent breakdowns.
- System Repair: Working on various systems, including engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and air brake systems.
- Component Overhaul: Disassembling, repairing, and reassembling major components like engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
- Part Selection and Ordering: Advising on part selection and ordering necessary parts for repairs.
- Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of repairs and maintenance performed on equipment.
- Welding and Fabricating: Performing minor welding and brazing work, as well as fabricating or installing custom equipment.
- Safety: Ensuring all repairs are done to safety standards and that equipment is operated safely. Training: Instructing operators on equipment operation and servicing.
- Traveling: May be required to travel to worksites to repair large equipment.
- Following blueprints and manuals: Reading and understanding operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
Qualifications/ Skills:
Technical Skills: Strong understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and electrical systems. Diagnostic Skills: Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems. Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and resolve complex issues related to heavy equipment. Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and work in various environments. Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with operators and other mechanics.Education: Highschool diploma or equivalent
Required Skills:
- 10 years direct experience in heavy equipment repairAdvanced knowledge of heavy equipment repair and shop safety
- Candidate MUST be able to provide sound guidance and leadership.
- Must be able to work and build a team environment.
- Proficient in computer skills to include Microsoft Office application: MS word, Excel, PowerPoint as well as filing systems and office document organization

.Applicant may be required to travel and will be required to work in compliance with OSHA and V2X safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other tasks assigned by leadership in a manner that enhances customer satisfaction.
- Must be able to obtain and/or maintain a US Secret Security Clearance.
- Desired Skills:
- ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications can demonstrate competency in specific areas of heavy equipment repair preferred preferred Existing US SECRET Security Clearance
- Experience with MAXIMO work orders
