JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Prepares structures for painting by removing dirt, scale, rust, old paint coatings, grease, and other materials using appropriate cleaning and removal processes. Paints structure ensuring proper adhesion.
  2. Performs routine, daily maintenance on the upkeep of paint equipment.
  3. Operates equipment such as high reach, forklift, mechanical platforms, and specialized rigging and harnesses for suspended painting projects.
  4. Routinely works at heights in excess of 200 feet above the ground and waterway.
  5. Prepares all paint and prep material while demonstrating basic knowledge and awareness of environmental regulations and measures to avoid pollution or contamination of waterways.
  6. Maintains a daily record indicating the asset worked on, the number of hours spent and how much surface was painted.
  7. Makes recommendations to supervisor for materials and equipment needed for job duties.
  8. Stays current on latest industrial equipment painting and preservation technology.
  9. Reports any equipment malfunction to immediate supervisor.
  10. Maintains assigned equipment and work areas in a clean, organized and professional manner.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Minimum of four to six years’ experience as an industrial painter in preparation and painting of structural steel required.
  • Experience in the operation of equipment such as high reach, forklift, mechanical platforms and specialized rigging and harnesses required.

License/Certifications : N/A

Knowledge:

  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and practices of industrial painting in marine environment required.
  • Basic knowledge of environmental regulations pertaining to potentially hazardous materials required.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to plan jobs and follow through without direct supervision.
  • Skill to properly mix and match paint.

Travel: None

Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver license is required and must be maintained during employment.
  • This position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) during employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequently remain in a stationary position.
  • Constantly move, traverse inside office or on JAXPORT property to accomplish job duties.
  • Constantly operate, use or handle equipment, tools, computers and other office machinery.
  • Constantly ascend, descend, work atop, traverse on ladders, equipment and buildings to perform maintenance and safety functions. Heights up to 200 feet.
  • Constantly position self to move, to maintain or repair equipment on terminal or in office.
  • Constantly detect, determine, identify, recognize, observe, inspect to read and use computers.
  • Constantly detect, converse with, convey, exchange information with others via radio, telephone. Ability to listen to equipment to troubleshoot
  • Continuously move, transport and position, material up to 10 pounds, frequently up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk.
