The Architectural Designer performs pre-registration architectural work in the design and development of public works and related projects. This is an entry level architectural position prior to professional licensure performing architectural work with supervision from a registered architect.
Essential Functions:
As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, this classification may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Work assignments may vary depending on the departments need and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.
Maintains the departments drawing archives including both paper and digital files including the AutoCAD bases files;
Investigates and evaluates requests for small- to medium-sized departmental remodeling and reviews such requests with department personnel;
Designs and completes small- to medium-sized architectural projects under the guidance of a registered architect, developing scopes of work, creating project budgets and schedules, and providing plans and specifications;
Provides oversight and project management for small- to medium-sized construction and interior renovation projects;
Makes final inspection of completed projects and authorizes their acceptance including processing final payments and closeout procedures;
Manages contracts for outside technical registrants as required for projects including developing the scope of work, fee negotiation, monitoring progress, reviewing and approving the work and processing payments;
Participates with in-house licensed professionals in programming, design work, cost estimating, construction drawings, review of project specifications and required revisions, construction administration and site monitoring for large projects;
Makes technical and physical surveys and compiles data for use in developing and planning new projects;
Uses Computer-Aided Drafting/Design equipment and related software for documentation, construction documents and other supplementary drawings to communicate designs and the scope of work;
Uses drafting and graphic design software to develop presentations, renderings, diagrams, etc.;
Develops cost estimates for small projects that include multiple trades and vendors based on scope of work providing alternative cost options when appropriate;
Researches building and other life safety codes, resource manuals, and technical standards for technical design information and applies same to projects.
Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with a major in architecture or related discipline as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.

Experience with Autocad.
Experience with/knowledge of commercial/public sector architecture.
Experience with/knowledge of the development of construction documents.
Experience with/knowledge of developing design presentations using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator SketchUp, or other modeling and graphic design software.

Selection Process:
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process .

Licenses and Certificates : Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services review and approval of the candidates driving record.
