The Challenge
We are looking for an Assistant Division Design Construct (DDC) Engineer to join our team.
In this role, you will:
Serve as a second project manager for our DDC Unit under our DDC Engineer.
Help manage any project task while also attending site visits, preconstruction conferences, coordinating with the survey crew, and conducting final walk throughs.
Manage and coordinate all aspects of project development, including planning and design, while keeping projects within scope, schedule, and on budget.
Oversee design and review of all disciplines related to the preparation of project plans using CADD (MicroStation and Geopack) for the Division, let, STIP, Spot Safety, High Hazard, Direct Allocation, and any other projects.
Assist our DDC Engineer and design staff, as needed, with the more complex designs.
Oversee and track DDC project schedules.
Generate estimates and help develop conceptual designs relating to the DDC unit. This could be for potential future projects, as well as currently funded projects..
Craft estimates involving coordinating with the Regional Transportation Engineer (RTE), Division Transportation Engineer (DTE), DDC Engineer, Utility Coordinator, Right of Way (ROW) Agents, and other internal NCDOT units to ensure all 4 project phases (PE, ROW, UTIL and CON) are accounted for.
Understand funding designations (Hi/Lo, Economic Development, Spot Safety, High Hazard, HSIP, Spot Mobility, etc.) and Division Purchase Order Contract (DPOC) documents entailing the understanding of NCDOT standard provisions, standards drawings, engineers estimate, creating/maintaining special provisions, and developing contact times while coordinating with State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) project managers, the DTE, the DDC, and Contracts Engineers.
Perform plan reviews and discuss roadway engineering concepts for the DDC and STIP Units.
What You Bring
Customer service experience resolving problems involving explaining engineering concepts to customer groups.
Experience interpreting construction plans, provisions, specifications, policies, procedures, and regulations.
Experience training, planning, coordinating, and supervising employees.
Computer experience in Microsoft Office, Outlook, CADD (MicroStation), SharePoint, and GIS software.
Survey techniques and equipment experience.
Working knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering and construction methods, materials, and equipment.
Proficiency at plan reading, highway engineering calculations, and familiarity with survey instruments and procedures to interpret and approve stake-outs of line grades for roadways and structures
Solid communications skills to communicate, establish, and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors, and the public.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision from the Resident Engineer.
Able to work inside and outside in all environments.
Safety toe shoes.
Note
We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
