Job Description

The Senior Painter is a skilled professional with expert-level knowledge in all aspects of interior and exterior painting. They possess an understanding of standard practices, materials, and techniques, and are capable of working independently with minimal supervision. The Senior Painter contributes to a wide range of projects-including new construction, renovations, repairs, and preventive maintenance across all UT Knoxville campus buildings. Additionally, they may serve as a mentor to less experienced painters, providing guidance and support to help develop their skills.

Responsibilities

Protects surfaces, trimmings, fixtures, windows, etc. through the completion of the painting project.

Prepares, primes, sands, seals, patches and paints interior or exterior surface utilizing all types of painting materials such as latex, lacquer, varnish, enamel, epoxy, water-proofing and heat resistant finishes.

Preparing painting surfaces by washing walls, repairing holes, or removing old paint.

Mixing, matching, and applying paints and other finishes to various surfaces.

Providing decorative and faux finishes per the contract documents.

Preparing the surrounding area by covering with cloth or plastic to prevent messes.

Provides technical guidance and direction

Always responsible for clean-up of the project site and putting tools and equipment back in its proper place as well as cleaning and maintaining all painting equipment and tools.

Operates, cleans and maintains all painting equipment including brushes, rollers and sprays.

Prepares job and work surface by carefully and safely setting-up materials at the project site, which could include setting up ladders or erecting scaffolding safely to perform tasks above ground level.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED

Experience: Four (4) years of experience or a combination of relevant trade school and experience. (Education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Knowledge of reading and blueprints, specifications, and finish schedules.

Ability to work with minimal supervision and direct other painters as needed.

Ability to complete work per project schedule as well as meet tight deadlines.

Knowledge of tools, equipment, materials and application techniques common to the painting trade.

Knowledge and skill in hazardous materials handling, application and disposal.

Knowledge of stains, lacquers and wood types.

Knowledge of blending wood grains and wood patterns.

Must have the ability to learn and apply computer applications.

Must have the ability and aptitude to be trained in multi-disciplined capabilities.

The applicant must have the ability to wear a respirator.

Must have the ability to climb a ladder and/or work on the lift when the height of the task is over six (6) feet high.

Other:

Must have a valid driver's license

Be able to work required shift.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment visa status.
