Job Description

Lead Construction activities across all BUs in Americas (LATAM sub-regions with a dotted line) and steer execution of critical or underperforming projects. Provide expert Construction knowledge and implement global processes at a regional level in line with regional business strategy and objectives, corporate guidelines and policies. Drive overall strategic Construction approach and service excellence in delivering construction projects. Provide guidance to the Head of CRE Americas on all construction activities, future pipeline and improvement potentials.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the function Construction on a regional level
  • Establish and implement strategies that have long-term (5+ years) impact on business results in alignment with global objectives and directly impacting the organizations business strategy
  • Manage multiple large projects or processes with limited oversight from manager

Problems faced are difficult, highly complex and connected to large budget volumes

  • Regional Scope Counties: Americas for al BUs
  • Current Construction project budget 460m for next 1-2 years
  • Reflected in approx. 85 Construction projects
  • Lead Construction activities at a regional level and steer execution of critical, cross-sub-regional or underperforming projects
  • Provide expert Construction knowledge and implement global processes at a regional level in line with business strategy and objectives, corporate guidelines and policies

Support Global Construction Horizontal to identify innovative construction solutions and pilot implementation in cooperation with the team

  • Define strategic direction for constructions matters incl. resources requirement for next 3-5 years
  • Provide guidance to the Head of CRE Region on all Construction activities, future pipeline and improvement potentials
  • Contribute to the regional growth plans of all BUs by providing advice on all construction related matters
  • Define and manage standardized project delivery process (design & build) and a standard construction costing process, implement project delivery processes in region and train project managers accordingly
  • Establish and manage standard process for tender evaluation, due diligence and change order requests, provide advice to sub-regional project managers where needed
  • Lead execution of feasibility studies centrally for all sub-regions
  • Monitor quality criteria, project status, cost, issue resolution and risk mitigation of projects of regional importance
  • Drive and manage delivery of large and complex construction projects from inception to completion including new build, refurbishment and re-construction projects ensuring on time and within budget results for sub-region North Americas
  • Engage external sources and identify construction trend and headwinds for Americas

Develop/forecast notion of what impact construction trends have on CRE Americas and DHL in general

  • Negotiate critical agreements/contracts with other departments and 3rd parties
  • Develop strong, trusting relationships with senior business leaders across DPDHL and partner organizations
  • Influence others across DPDHL and externally as an internally and externally recognized thought leader representing the Group
  • Champion cooperation and partnership to provide integrated solutions to problems
  • Lead a team of construction experts for North America and a dotted line responsibility for Latam construction teams
  • Ensure appropriate talent selection, organization and leadership for major areas of the organization
  • Ensure Cross-regional Construction team works jointly to manage large construction project pipeline and leverage best practice expertise

Required Education and Experience

  • Masters degree in Real Estate, Building Engineering
  • MBA preferred
  • 10+ years of relevant Construction experience in leading multiple large projects at the same time
