WHO YOU ARE: (if this sounds like you, you may be the perfect fit)

An opportunity awaits for a Senior Electrical Engineer who brings a great attitude, learns fast, and is ready to grow with a technical team that thrives on big ideas and high standards.

You're a grinder-the kind of person who sweats the small stuff to make the whole project shine. You love a challenge, especially the kind that comes with complex, high-stakes work. But you also find purpose in making average projects exceptional . You take pride in your output, because your work reflects who you are-and how you think.

You're always on offense. You're hungry for growth and looking for a place where you can make your mark. You stay open to new ideas and enjoy pushing boundaries to solve tough problems in smarter ways.

If that sounds like you, you're exactly where you should be.

About the Role

As a Senior Electrical Engineer , you'll lead the design and execution of electrical systems for complex buildings and facilities-delivering quality work, driving collaboration, and pushing for continuous improvement.

This role requires deep technical expertise , particularly in areas like hazardous area classification , motor controls , generators , and UPS systems . While you don't need experience in every project type we work on, you should be confident designing and managing large-scale, technically complex projects .

Your focus will be on industrial and mission-critical facilities , including cleanrooms, manufacturing sites, data centers, and first responder infrastructure. Our portfolio also includes lower-complexity developments-like multifamily, commercial, and municipal work-but these are not the core emphasis of this role.

We don't expect you to be an expert in everything. That's why we have a strong, collaborative team. If you bring deep experience in a few key areas, we'll surround you with the right support to succeed across the rest.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, and life safety
  • Performing electrical analysis (short circuit, load, arc flash, and coordination) using ETAP
  • Completing construction administration tasks (or overseeing them) including submittal reviews, site observations, RFIs
  • Managing engineering production (output and quality) from initial programming through each QA/QC milestone. You will have eyes on the entire portfolio of projects whether as the lead engineer or by way of oversight.
  • Coordinating with the design team (who will be drafting and modeling using AutoCAD and Revit)
  • Documenting and developing internal design standards and workflows
  • Collaborating closely with teammates, consultants, and clients
  • Leading and mentoring engineers and technical designers
  • Contributing to our team culture through a positive, curious, and growth-minded approach
  • Improving the company through proactive contributions and process refinement

This is a full-time, salaried position based in our Phoenix office .

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • PE license (Arizona preferred, but not required)
  • 7+ years of experience in building/facility electrical design
  • Proficient in ETAP or equivalent tools for power system analysis
  • 2+ years of leadership or team management experience (preferred)
  • Experience with industrial or mission-critical facilities (preferred)
  • Strong coordination, communication, and quality control skills
  • Ability to travel. Expect local travel weekly and regional travel quarterly. qu

What You Bring to the Table

You will do more than just hold a title-you've owned your work, pushed limits, and delivered under pressure. You're not looking to coast. You're looking to build, lead, and leave a mark. Specifically, you:

  • Embrace technology -You're fluent in modern design tools and analysis software. You see tech as a lever, not a burden.
  • Design and build -You're a working engineer who thrives on solving real-world problems-not just redlining others' work.
  • Move fast and stay sharp -You've worked in high-velocity environments and can manage shifting priorities without dropping the ball.
  • Communicate clearly -You can explain complex ideas in plain terms, whether it's to a client, a junior engineer, or another trade.
  • Give and receive feedback well -You lead with clarity and respect, and you're always willing to learn or adjust.
  • Organize and execute -You know how to structure a project, manage your time, and drive to the finish line with precision.
  • Coach and elevate others -You've mentored teammates and shared what you know because building others up makes the whole team stronger.
  • Contribute to culture -You bring energy, professionalism, and a mindset that makes the team better just by having you in the room.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience with industrial process controls and field instrumentation
  • Familiarity with medium voltage distribution systems (5kV-35kV)
  • Design experience in cleanroom or controlled environments
  • Background working in mission-critical , manufacturing , or laboratories
  • Exposure to PLC/SCADA integration from an electrical perspective

Who This Is Not For

We're a high-performance team, and we move with intention. That means this role isn't for everyone-and that's okay. Here are a few signs this may not be the right fit:

  • You're more comfortable managing from a distance than getting hands-on with technical work
  • You avoid feedback or struggle to collaborate across teams and disciplines
  • You rely heavily on others to "check your work" or finalize designs
  • You prefer routine over variety, or need a lot of structure to stay productive
  • You're not up to speed with modern design tools or resist new technology
  • You have limited experience with complex systems or high-stakes projects
  • You're limited to doing project work the same way as it has always been done

We're looking for someone who can bring both expertise and energy -someone who's ready to contribute, mentor, and take ownership from day one. Volta isn't the place to hide behind a title. It's where engineers come to grow, solve, and lead. If that excites you more than it intimidates you-you might be exactly who we're looking for.
