Description :
The Civil/Structural Design Drafter will focus on power plant and general design, including but not limited to structural steel terminology, structural steel layouts, platforms, stairs, roof framing, steel bracing, knowledge of how to use and utilize the AISC Structural book, which identifies the structural member's dimensions, and weights, etc.
The individual will partner with various structural/civil team members and, from those conversations, site visits, and sketches, will develop the design and detailed structural drawings as mentioned above.
The individual will also know the concrete layout and terminology, along with rebar layout detail, floor/slab, foundation drawing layout, and details presentation.
Designs or assists with design and application of generating facilities in the structural and civil arena.
May be involved with project evaluations, surveys, investigations, studies, estimates, drawings, sketches, work order requests, material requests, notice to proceed project documents.
Provides design package consisting of structural/civil drawings, from own notes, field visits, or engineer's concepts.
Assists in the documentation of division design standards and procedures.
May be required to contact outside agencies such as manufactures and vendors relating to project specifics.
Requires out of town travel to another generating site.
Will work with Structural Engineer to create new drawings from field note(s)/sketches or from conceptual ideas.
Qualifications:
A knowledge of structural members, shapes and detailing is a must.
Designer can be a paraprofessional, 2 year AA, designer drafter
6+ years of experience preferred
Needs to have structural experience
Ability to work with other team engineers and designers in the various disciplines of the organization.
As a plus, knowledge of power generation processes and plant equipment.
Ability to develop connection, bracing detail for steel structures.
Must be proficient with the latest version of Bentley Systems MicroStation Connect.
Ability to layout concrete structures including details of concrete reinforcement. Typical concrete design drawings would be of slabs and equipment foundations and pads per engineer's calculations and/or sketches.
