Under direction of a Caltrans Electrical Supervisor incumbent is responsible for the operation of assigned electrical maintenance activities in the 694 cost center. While much of the work will be performed in Siskiyou county, the incumbent may also be required to perform work in Trinity, Siskiyou, Tehama, Modoc, Lassen and Shasta counties. This position is considered full journey level. The incumbent may be required to act as lead in the absence of the Caltrans Electrical Supervisor. A valid California Class C drivers license is required. Duties include, but are not limited to: Installation and modification of the highway traffic signal systems and highway lighting systems based on reading electrical schematic, drawings and construction blueprints. This includes wiring, conduits, poles, heads, controllers, switches, vehicle detectors, and special illumination in connection with these signals. Maintenance and repair of all portions of traffic signal systems and highway lighting systems. This includes making difficult repairs based on locating cause of system failures. Required to work overtime, nights, and weekends due to storms, emergencies, or special work projects, as determined by the Supervisor or Department. Troubleshooting of systems will include estimating repair times and costs, keeping records and inputting accurate daily work details into the Integrated Maintenance Management System (IMMS) database. Applicant must have passed the exam & be reachable on the current list for this classification. Position is subject to Post & Bid process for Bargaining Unit 12.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Electrician II exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
