Join an exciting technology team responsible for Building Automation, Security Access Systems, and Video Management Systems. The Building Automation Technician manages, programs, and monitors the Citys enterprise Building Automation System (BAS) and related security and video systems. This includes oversight of local devices and controllers for HVAC, security access, video surveillance, and lighting controls, ensuring seamless connectivity to the enterprise server. The role encompasses full-service maintenance, troubleshooting, programming, and ensuring compliance with specifications and energy efficiency standards for new construction and renovation projects.

Duties and Responsibilities- Plan, schedule, and oversee maintenance, repairs, improvement work, and operational activities; conduct inspections; assess equipment conditions and determine repair/replacement needs
- Review and evaluate preventive maintenance programs; recommend and implement program enhancements to optimize performance
- Investigate and resolve operational issues; respond to inquiries and complaints; interpret policies and recommend solutions
- Perform Video Management System (VMS) activities, including requirements gathering, solution design, configuration, validation, and training
- Monitor and administer service contracts; assist in contract negotiations and vendor selection; ensure project scope, quality, and progress meet contract requirements
- Assist in preparing and monitoring budgets; manage expenditures and inventory within budget constraints
- Commission and perform verification testing for new installations of building automation, security access, and video management solutions
- Test and monitor all components of building automation and control networks for mechanical, electrical, security camera, and electronic access equipment
- Assist HVAC technicians with troubleshooting HVAC system controls and related safety devices.
- Monitor contractor work for quality control; test systems before production use; document discrepancies and communicate findings
- Monitor energy efficiency and determine repair/replacement needs for equipment.
- Program and configure building automation systems using Niagara and various controller platforms
- Monitor and troubleshoot BAS operations for optimal performance
- Perform SQL Server database verification testing
- Provide network configuration for new equipment and devices
- Participate in inclement weather and emergency response rotations; provide critical system information during outages
Education and Experience:
Associate's degree in a related field and four years of related experience including experience at the senior or lead level
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing and Certifications
- Valid North Carolina Class C Drivers license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
