Heavy Equipment Mechanic Job Description Analyze malfunctions and perform both minor and major repairs on heavy equipment. The maintenance and repair work will be completed at our Newport News shop and on various jobsites throughout the Hampton Roads area. Field mechanics start their day at the Newport News shop at 6:30 AM and then travel with a service truck to perform repairs in the field. Responsibilities Analyze equipment malfunctions to determine necessary repairs. Perform both minor and major repairs on heavy equipment. Conduct maintenance work at the Newport News shop and on jobsites across the Hampton Roads area. Travel daily with a service truck to perform field repairs. Essential Skills Proficiency in heavy equipment repair and maintenance. Strong knowledge of hydraulics and mechanical systems. Experience with Cat equipment is required. At least five years of experience as a diesel mechanic. Additional Skills & Qualifications Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A or B is a plus. State Inspector certification is a plus.
