Title: Transportation Engineer
Location: State College Municipal Building
Starting Salary Range: $95,680 to $120,640

REQUIREMENTS:
The Transportation Engineer is responsible for the planning, analysis, design, and implementation of transportation systems and infrastructure projects that enhance mobility, safety, and accessibility throughout the municipality. This position plays a key role in coordinating multimodal transportation efforts and aligning long-range transportation planning with land use and development objectives. The role involves close collaboration with the Borough Planning Department and other internal departments as well as, external partners, including the State College Transportation Commission, Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA), the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Centre County Metropolitan Planning Organization (CCMPO), the State College Area School District (SCASD), and other regional governments to ensure transportation initiatives support municipal policies and capital programs. The position requires advanced knowledge and application of transportation engineering principles, theories, and best practices.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The position requires a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a closely related field. Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in transportation engineering or traffic planning, with preference given to those who have worked in a municipal or public sector setting. Additional consideration will be given to candidates with experience working in a college town or similarly dynamic community, particularly those serving a large student population. Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is required within 90 days of hire date. A valid Pennsylvania driver's license is also required (If candidate has an out of state license at the time of hire, they must obtain a valid Pennsylvania driver's license within 90 days of hire date) and must be maintained while employed.
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above, an individual must be able to perform each of the essential functions established in order to perform this job successfully.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred qualifications include a master's degree in a related field with experience in transportation engineering or planning, particularly in the public sector. An ideal candidate will have expertise in multimodal transportation.
