Description

Performs difficult skilled technical work supervising the work of crews engaged in the construction and maintenance of streets and related facilities, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Assistant Director. Continuous oversight is exercised over all personnel within the team.

Examples of Duties

  • Addresses storm water complaints, issues, and concerns from the public.
  • Schedules, assigns and supervises the work of crews engaged in the installation and repair of sidewalks, driveways, curbs and gutters, storm drain systems and related streets facilities.
  • Inspects construction work of employees; interviews candidates; trains new employees; evaluates work performance.
  • Oversees budget for 70/30 projects; estimates costs of construction projects; maintains inventory of supplies and equipment; ensures invoices have been paid.
  • Maintains daily records of work completed.
  • Performs snow removal duties when necessary.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED and considerable experience in construction and maintenance of roads and stormwater systems, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Comprehensive knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; comprehensive knowledge of related industry, organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; comprehensive knowledge of industry standard and department specific equipment; thorough knowledge of standard office and department specific software; thorough knowledge of standard accounting software; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages; ability to read and comprehend blue prints; ability to troubleshoot issues on site; ability to detect issues with stormwater systems; ability to instruct employees regarding repairs; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

Physical Requirements: This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, sitting, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to vibration and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
