SUMMARY
The Journeyman Millwright is a key member of the Maintenance team in a 24-hour continuous production facility. The role is responsible for the installation, inspection, adjustment, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of plant mechanical systems and equipment. Millwrights in this facility are expected to maintain high levels of professionalism, critical thinking, problem-solving, and urgency to support equipment reliability and process performance. You will be required to maintain equipment to plant standards, respond to production needs, participate in continuous improvement, and work both independently and within a cross-functional team to keep the plant running at a high level of efficiency and safety.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS ROLE
- Perform assigned work orders via the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
- Participate actively in the Preventive Maintenance (PM) program
- Install, inspect, adjust, align, and maintain stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment
- Inspect equipment for wear, misalignment, vibration, fatigue, or other signs of malfunction
- Diagnose mechanical failures, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions
- Repair or replace defective components as needed
- Operate machine tools to fabricate and modify parts during overhaul, maintenance, or setup of machinery
- Ensure operating safety devices function properly after any repairs, modifications, or installations
- Perform equipment lubrication and routine servicing
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of work performed, inspections, and parts used
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of machines, tools, and maintenance processes
- Follow all workplace safety policies (LOTO, confined space, PPE, etc.) and applicable regulations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Work effectively with Production Operators, Electricians, Control Technicians, and Engineers to resolve equipment issues and improve performance
- Perform other related duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Minimum 2 years of relevant industrial Millwright experience
- Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment
- Familiarity with CMMS systems and work order processes
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, P&IDs, and schematics
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
- Ability to work effectively in high-pressure, fast-changing production environments
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Strong work ethic, good judgment, and sound decision-making
- Flexibility to work any shift, weekends, and overtime as required by a 24/7 manufacturing operation
- Proficient in safe work practices, including LOTO and machinery safety
- Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in extreme temperature environments (-20F to +100F)
Preferred Experience:
- Welding and fabrication experience (MIG and stick welding)
- Basic knowledge of industrial 3-phase electricity and devices (ability to collaborate effectively with Electricians and Control Techs)
- Exposure to PLC-controlled equipment and automation systems (troubleshooting mechanical side)
- Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
- Instrumentation experience in flow meters, temperature (RTD and thermocouple), pressure, and level transducers, control valves, smart meters, schematics & mechanical diagrams.
