Overview
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic analyzes malfunction and repairs, overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses trucks or tractors (commercial and military). Rebuild and maintains light, medium and heavy wheeled vehicles including Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles all variants.

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:
+ Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on heavy, medium and light wheeled vehicles and Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles all variants
+ Uses automated Logistics Information System to maintain equipment records, and document maintenance actions, maintains wheeled, and grounding systems.
+ Inspects, tests, and operates wheeled equipment to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation.
+ Services equipment with fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air, disassembles and assembles malfunctioning accessories and components.
+ Removes, disassembles repairs, cleans, treats for corrosion, assembles, and reinstalls components and accessories.
+ Disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations.
+ Operates, cleans, inspects, and services wheeled and construction equipment for maintenance purposes.
+ Practices good housekeeping, property accountability control, prevention and safety at all times.
+ Additional responsibilities include working with a variety of repair and test equipment including welders, torches, pressure testers and electrical testers to name a few.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
+ Prior training and/or maintenance experience on MRAP systems preferable
+ Field level maintenance on US Military and Civilian automotive equipment. Including diagnostics, parts identification, requisition, and repair in accordance with technical specifications within specified repair times.
+ This position will perform field level automotive maintenance on civilian, combat, tactical, MRAP Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
+ Work is generally conducted in a shop environment. However, duties may involve the conduct of work in the outdoors area with a potential exposure to extreme climatic condition.
+ Work requires stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolong sitting and occasional working in cramped and awkward position.
+ Frequent exposure to conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights.
+ A normal work week is 40 hours (5 days a week). Must be willing to work additional hours when mission requires.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
+ Must be able to climb up and down ladders and stairs as well as bend, twist, pull, push and lift items weighing up to 100 lbs.
+ Must be able to work in confined spaces.
+ Must be able to perform all job functions in variable weather conditions as well as in environmental conditions such as engine fumes, vehicle emissions and dust. HEM (MRAP) mechanics must be able to work with hazardous chemicals such as petroleum products, cleaning solvents.
+ Applicant must provide their own tools and safety footwear.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:
+ Six years of experience in heavy medium and light wheeled and MRAP equipment maintenance or equivalent.
+ High school diploma or equivalent.
+ Must be proficient in servicing, troubleshooting and repairing military and commercial wheeled equipment and MRAPs.
+ Should be proficient in electrical troubleshooting
+ Must be familiar with the use of electronic technical manuals.
+ Applicant must furnish their own serviceable, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliant, tools, that are appropriate for their required duties.
+ Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen.
+ Must have a valid REAL ID State Drivers License with no restrictions.
+ Valid Class A or B Commercial Drivers License preferred
+ Must be able to obtain and maintain a NACI Tier 1 Public Trust.
+ Must be able to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship, such as a birth certificate or a U.S. Passport.
+ Must be able to maintain driving privileges aboard the Fort Bragg Installation.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
+ Must be proficient in servicing, troubleshooting and repairing military and civilian wheeled equipment.
+ Must be familiar with the use of electronic technical manuals.
+ Prior training and/or maintenance experience on MRAP systems.
