Job Description
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for inspecting residential construction and remodeling projects to ensure compliance with applicable building and zoning codes. Under general supervision, the inspector performs a range of routine to moderately complex inspection duties and may, with experience, assist in inspections of commercial and industrial properties.

Location: St. Louis, MO
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This is an entry-level technical position within the Code Enforcement Series - Building Inspection Group.
Initially focused on residential inspections, with potential to support commercial/industrial inspections over time.
Operates under established procedures and policies with periodic supervision.
Independent judgment is expected within the scope of assignments.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct on-site inspections of residential construction and remodeling for code compliance.
Review building permits, construction drawings, and related documentation.
Inspect structures (e.g., vacant buildings, demolitions, renovations) for safety and fire code compliance.
Investigate complaints from city departments, officials, or the public.
Document violations, recommend corrective action, and issue condemnation notices when necessary.
Provide follow-up inspections to verify compliance.
Advise property owners, contractors, and stakeholders on code requirements and violation processes.
Research ownership records, municipal codes, and ordinances to support inspection activities.
Testify in court or at hearings regarding code violations and inspection findings.
Assist with inspections of commercial and industrial buildings as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned
